From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Still haven't gotten Plasma 6 on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. I know they're making sure it's a quality roll-out but I can't wait!!! :)

It became available for me on Tumbleweed last night.

Using now and I'm so excited that Wayland is like 300% more usable for me on Nvidia than it has been. This is really exciting. Everything is super smooth.

I just wish it had a better way of telling me "All this theme stuff is incompatible" and letting me update it. That's a bit wonky right now...

An additional fix that seems important, but not mentioned in the summary:

PowerDevil

  • Check if idle inhibitor is active before blanking the screen. Commit. Fixes bug #482141
[–] Swarfega@lemm.ee 8 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

That is an important fix. I'm surprised this wasn't found before 6 even released.

It's similar to an issue I have on Plasma 5 where if I am playing a game with a game pad, the screen would go off due to inactivity. It's a known old bug. I wish they would fix it.

Oh here it is. Only 11 years old...

Is there any way to automatically unlock the Kwallet with Autologin (sddm) in Plasma 6?

These are already my settings, but from Plasma 6 I am asked for my password every time I log in.

[–] Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show -1 points 8 months ago (2 children)

No. You might aswell not use a wallet in that case, since nothing is protecting your passwords.

[–] lengau@midwest.social 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

That really depends on what backs it up.

For example, if you have TPM backed FDE, TPM-backed encryption for your wallet, and the screen locked on login, you can still get a pretty high level of security.

[–] Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Sure, but they specifically asked for it to unlock on autologin. Meaning no password to be entered. If you lock the screen right away, you still need to put in a password, so that is not what they want.

[–] lengau@midwest.social 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

They asked it to unlock their wallet on autologin, which is separate from whether the screen is locked.

Either way only because of SMB shares that I don't want to mount via fstab. Where access is with restricted rights. Selinux is also in use.

Ahh I feel the temptation to upgrade. Must...resist. The voices are becoming louder, but the will is still strong

[–] Novi@sh.itjust.works 8 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Do it. I waited for release but it was smooth as butter before. It has some edge case issues but on the whole it's been better than staying on plasma 5.
