Yeah, I was looking at them earlier, before I saw this.. would be great to not need the graphics expansion, doubt I could have stopped myself from clicking “buy” if it had been an option :).

Now, if they stick one in a framework laptop, I’ll be a few thousand dollars poorer.
I had an identity theft a few years back, still cleaning up from it. At the time I had the typical set of standard passwords that I would use. I thought they were ok since they were pretty random but I had one for Financial, one for Web Services, etc. so of course when the creds leaked, I suddenly had a bunch of credit card bills I never signed up for..
Since then, every password is unique, my default is 31 characters, and 2-factor for everything possible. Unfortunately I initially settled on LastPass, figured that they had hopefully learned their lesson from their breach years ago. Then it happened again recently and I moved to Bitwarden so that I can eventually migrate to a self-hosted solution.
I've been trying to get my family on board for years but it's still too complex. Non-technical folk still will take the path of least resistance, even when the dangers are right in front of their face. We need something better.

Avoid the cruft, roll your own content and find smaller, individual communities like these tubes used to be a decade (or more) ago.
Bingo. I’ve been running refurb 4tb hgst drives for years now, oldest one has 50k power on hours and I’m not sure if that’s how long I’ve run it or if it had a bunch when it came. Either way, I have yet to lose one in years of use while popping several western digital and seagate drives.
I’m moving to 10tb drives (I tend to pick the biggest sub $100 drive option when I need a new standard) since I’m out of drive bays and nearly out of space on the old garbage array. Stick to the 3-2-1 rule and these should be fine.
between lemmy, mastodon and my own nerd projects, I'm having more fun on the internet than I have since the 90's. so, while I hate the enshittification, the side effect has been me rediscovering what was so fun in these tubes..
Yeah, that’s kinda what I mean about being a copycat. Did feel rushed, and there was a lot borrowed; felt like fallout at times, bioshock others, even reminded me of some LucalArts SCUMM/GrimE games. But overall I think they accomplished what they set out to and managed to make a decent game. Hopefully this news means they are stepping up their game (literally).
Since it was pretty much marketed as a Non-Fallout, Fallout game, I gave it a shot. I tempered my expectations though because let's be honest, most of the time copycats fall flat. So, I was actually pretty impressed with the game and ultimately found myself wanting more. It certainly felt like a freshman attempt but a really damn good freshman who's hopefully going places. The humor was good, if not a bit forced at times, the relationship system was fun although it being kinda 3rd party made the stakes a little lower, I enjoyed the gameplay and the story for the most part and IMHO it certainly looked good enough.
All in all, I'm a little excited for this now.
I used to live on reddit basically. I left due to the API shit they were pulling but did eventually get curious after closing my account but when I took a look, it was hot garbage. I unsigned from many of the big traffic subreddits and engaged in a lot of smaller and technical forums. Those users seem lately gone, or the ones who remained aren’t as knowledgeable or maybe there’s just been enough site changes that discussions aren’t happening like they used to.
In the meantime I’ve found fallbacks that I enjoy more, this place feels like early day Reddit which is super fun.
With my growing homelab, I’m nearly self hosting this same sort of solution in my basement.
I say this as a rare person who prefers to work in office.

Seriously, would much rather work with productive happy people. the remote work phenomenon has proven that between reduced traffic, the commercial real estate bubble, the fact that we’re literally all connected to each other 24/7 through the series of tubes means it’s about time we restructure the workforce.
