How is this proliferating csam?

Sharing it with people and companies that it wasn't being shared with before.

Also, how do you expect them to find csam without having known images?

The same way it is now: people reporting it and undercover police accounts. People recognise it.

without having someone look at every picture on someone's harddrive

If it's going to get used as evidence in court a human will have to review and confirm it. I don't think "Because the AI said so" is going to convince juries.

The only reason to be against this is if you are looking at CP

Or if it's you or someone you love who is in the CP. Having further copies of it on further hard drives, whether it's so someone can bake it into their AI tool or any other purpose is wrong. That's just my view though.

I agree. For the spec though, Dell aren't any better value for money than laptops from the smaller 'for linux' sellers. Which is pretty cool. Of course it's much easier to find used Dell laptops though.

I think it depends on your budget and where you live. North America has System76, UK has Starlabs, Germany has Tuxedo, Netherlands has laptopswithlinux and Spain has Slimbook. I think Starlabs are the only ones who do a tablet. Has your wife tried using an external graphics tablet? I don't use Krita myself but if you want to save money and buy a second hand convertible it might be worth asking/searching on a Krita forum about what others are using from the bigger manufacturers.

I think all CSAM should be destroyed out of respect for the victims, not proliferated. I don't care who is hanging onto this material or for what purpose.

I'm sure big polluters will be citing this paper for decades to come.

"It will OK in the end bro."

I'm aware of Debian's reputation for not having the most up-to-date software in its repository but have just noticed that Thunderbird is on its current version. Which makes me ask:

When does Debian update a package? And how does it decide when to?

I'm particularly interested in when it will make available the upcoming major release of GIMP to 3.0.

Cool, no more need for American military bases in our countries then. Or sharing intelligence with them. Or propping up their arms industry.

Pretty interesting after Robin Wright's role in The Congress.

I am drunk. I wish you hadn't suggested that.

So anyway, what are the pros and cons?

[–] Churbleyimyam@lemm.ee 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Why did that happen?

New linux user goes online to find out how to list installed packages in the terminal. Starts removing the ones they don't recognise.

Shit, I've done that!

What are some of the easiest ways for a beginner to make their system untable when they start tinkering with it?

Does anyone here use Starlabs computers? I'm thinking of buying one of their laptops and I'm interested in how well their products are supported in the long term. Specifically, firmware updates and spare parts & repairs.

Thanks

Does anyone know how I can select my audio output via the command line? I'm frequently switching between using my monitors inbuilt speakers and a USB audio interface and I'm finding it laborious to navigiggerate graphically through the settings in GNOME to do so.

What I'd like to do is set up a couple of bash aliases and do it in my terminal.

What's the best way for me to do that?

Many thanks

I'm thinking of getting a new laptop which uses Coreboot. The reason is that I'm into FOSS and would also like to not have IME installed. Currently I'm looking at Starlabs' Starbook, which can optionally be bought with Coreboot.

Can anyone help me evaluate it? I would likely use Debian 12 as my OS.

Many thanks

Does anyone know how I can merge/deduplicate contacts in a .vcf vcard file?

A nice easy graphical option would be ace but I have some terminal experience if necessary. I've tried vcardtools.py but I couldn't work out how to use it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks!

Any YUNOhost people here? What are your thoughts about it? Does it fulfil it's purpose of broadening accessibility to self-hosting? Is it secure? Interested to hear what you think.

Does anyone know of a reliable source for streaming England matches at the Euros? In particular, the ones that ITV have the rights to? Bonus points if it has English commentators.

I had terrible problems with their website last time

Thanks :)

I have some video files which have stereo audio tracks that were created from a mono source. I think the mono signal got sent to the right channel and not the left because when I created the files in OBS I forgot to select mono audio recording. When I play the videos all the sound is on right side only. Hope that makes sense...

How can I either mix down/combine the stereo tracks intoto a single mono track or replace the empty left channel with the audio content of the right channel? Is there a way to do this without reencoding the whole video file?

I could do it in a video editing gui by copypasting the audio track to the other empty channel but I wonder if there might be a more efficient way of doing it. An ffmpeg command perhaps?

Many thanks

Is there such a thing as an automatic music playlist generator? Or even something that will play a similar track next?

I've been (re)building an offline music collection and sometimes I'm too lazy/uninspired to make a new playlist or I get tired of ones I've already made. At times like this I would like to be able to select a song and tell my computer to make me a playlist of similar tracks, or use it as the basis for a 'radio' mode, like I used to do once on a streaming service.

Any pointers appreciated!

I'm able to use the command line and (laboriously) write primitive bash scripts. A GUI to take care of me would be ace tho ;)

Hi folks, Does anyone know how to instruct cron to carry out a command when a connection to the internet is first made after boot? I have a few jobs that only need to be done once per day and require an internet connection e.g downloading the weather forecast and my rss feeds. I'm not always connected to the internet on boot and do not have the computer switched on at the same times every day. Many thanks for any suggestions.

Can anyone recommend a simple printer for printing 6x4 inch photos, which has open source drivers? Thanks :)
