Every company wants a custom CRM or a customized one instead of choosing a CRM that fits the most important features that the company need and adapt the other processes to fit with the stock CRM as much as possible.

Fighting a CRM is a money pit and in the end, it becomes the worst of both worlds (expensive and shitty to use with the company processes)

Yeah but that time is long gone. Finance is throwing number in air of growth and profitability that must be met no matter what, and IT have to battle between what is effective, what the company tell them to do and what the users want, and in many case, the IT has a misplaced elitist attitude, like every user should know the infrastructure by heart and fix their problem themselves.

If a company uses other Microsoft products, chance are that Teams is bundled with whatever license they have. So for IT, it's one less service to manage.

Lots of people care because it creates e-waste.

Even though Facebook is a terrible inhumane corporation, they have the best product because it is lightweight, can be used without any base station and can be used without a pc-link.

The fact that a VR set requires at minimum a 5x5 feets space with a computer within the vicinity is definitely hurting the VR market.

So I just hope that we get something akin to the Quest but without the evil corporation bit.

When I played Elite Dangerous with a VR headset, man was it magical. But I won't dedicate a small room and a PC just for that experience.

The issue isn't you doing your hobby projects however you want, it's people being paid and produce LLM generated code.

And the biggest issue is managers/c-suites thinking that LLMs can replace senior devs.

And the biggest biggest issue is that the LLMs in their current mainstream form are terribly bad for the environment.

It's rarely the case. You rarely work in vacuum where your work only affects what you do at the moment. There is always a downstream or upstream dependency/requirement that needs to be met that you have to take into account in your development.

You have to avoid the problem that might come later that you are aware of. If it's not possible, you have to mitigate the impact of the future problems.

It's not possible to know of all the problems that might/will happen, but with a little work before a project, a lot of issues can be avoided/mitigated.

I wouldn't want civil engineers thinking like that, because our infrastructure would be a lot worse than it is today.

Hello,

I am having this weird issue where my mouse and keyboard will stop working when playing games. They are both plugged in the monitor's KVM

My setup is as follows : Kubuntu (Ubuntu 23.10) NVIDIA RTX 3060 TI Aorus FO48U monitor (with the KVM causing the issue)

I am not sure what other info is pertinent to my issue, so let me know what info is needed.

So to give more details, I will play a game (the last one being Jagged Alliance 3 on steam) and it will work fine for 40-45 minutes and then my mouse and keyboard stops working. They litterally get de-powered (no lights) by the KVM. I can power cycle the monitor and the mouse and keyboard will work for a few seconds then stop working again.

As a sanity check, I plugged my mouse and keyboard directly in the computer, so I know that the issue is with the monitor's KVM.

I recently installed Kubuntu , coming from windows 10, and in win10, there wasn't any issue. So there is definitely something going on with the monitor, Linux, and maybe the GPU.

I can see that the mouse, keyboard and monitors are re-added. And new device numbers are assigned everytime.

I've checked for any information of the monitor or gpu I could find around when the issue started.

I am not sure where else to start looking for more information. The information I gathered doesn't give me any clues because I am a new user and not familiar with all that information.

In the logs, we can clearly see that the mouse and keyboard from the KVM gets disconnected, but I don't see why this is happening.

I use the KVM switch because I only have one screen and can switch between my work computer and my personal computer. I understand the flakiness of KVMs in general, but I've used the monitor on windows for more than a year and a half and never had any issues.

Any help to tell me where to look next would be appreciated.

Hello,

I installed Ubuntu a few months ago on my work laptop and I've been running and loving it since.

However, I am used to VsCode, so this is what I am using in Ubuntu as well.

So I am curious, what kind of coding so you do? And what is your workflow.

I am an embedded firware developper and mainly use C. I am cross compiling my code in VsCode for a FPGA from Xilinx (dual core arm + PL)

Never dove into make files and cmake more than what I needed in the past, but I had an opportunity to learn CMake and build a project from it.

So my workflow is :

  1. Code in VsCode
  2. Build in CMake
  3. Transfer the app through scp on the target with a custom script (target is running petalinux, which is yocto + Xilinx recipes)
  4. Use gdb server to debug the code.

It's a pretty simple workflow, but I'd like to know what you guys are running so that I can maybe upgrade my workflow.
