Look, I agree his works shouldn't be destroyed, just not monetizable.

But the dude poked a bear with a sharp stick... Suing the creators of the story/characters you've built your content on for copyright infringement? Brilliant move....

Normal domain only for allowing others access to specific services (like friends+family into emby/plex/jellyfin). VPN for easily secured access to all the backend interfaces like radarr/sonarr/qbittorrent or private services like vaultwarden.

I also run the VPN to keep mobile devices behind pihole for adblocking.

Ombi > Radarr/Sonarr > Emby.

I want to watch something: open a webpage I host, search for title (results from thetvdb/themoviedb), click 'add+search'. Around 15min later I get an email notifying me it's available to watch. I then open another webpage I host and stream away.

My friends and family have access to this as well. Items they add will email me for approval before downloading, but is otherwise the same.

Kinda curious. Americans of lemmy: How much do you pay for internet?

I'm up a bit north Eh. Paying cad$135 (usd~$99.50) monthly before tax for Gigabit with no data cap.

Plex isn't hosting the illegal content and that which they are hosting they properly license. Plex in particular is pushimg harder and harder to host content for you, instead of you hosting your own.

Officially, the 'personal media server' side of things is for sharing home videos/pictures, not commercialized content. (this applies to Plex, Emby, and Jellyfin)

It's the users/server operators responsibly to have the correct licensing for whatever they are hosting to others.

Those 'share to facebook' buttons on pornhub were just ahead of their time is all...

"Backdoor Sluts 9" "you know who'd really enjoy this? My friends and family."

In the era of VPN, many users share the same IP too. You can reach the limit before downloading anything.

Then create a free account and it's no longer limited by ip and you get double the anonymous limit.

Jesus, reading comprehension is hard to come by eh? How have so many people struggled to actually read this?

They aren't requiring payment, nor are they requiring you to sign in or create an account.

They are transitioning from an old API to a new one. The new API (and the site itself) is ad supported and rate limited; 5 downloads per day unauthenticated, double that for a free account, or 'VIP' accounts have higher limits and no ads.

It's not authenticated access only, nor is it paid access only.

Nobody wants to maintain anything.

When you fail to maintain coal, gas, wind, or solar, it just stops working for the time being.

When you fail to maintain nuclear systems (be that poor understanding, lack of training, negligence, whatever), things go very bad very quickly.

This is before you get into wider issue's like waste management and environmental concerns.
