I would add creation within an IP to this as well. There are so many good IP out there that some large company has devoured and actively chooses to just sit on when we could be getting good fan-made content. One example that comes to mind since it was brought up is EA sitting on American McGee's Alice. So many fans are desperate for good content from their favourite IPs and are getting corporate by-the-numbers drivel at best or simply nothing.

I think a good trade off here is fans can make what they want then the owners are allowed to incorporate fan stories at their choosing so X fan game would be the official third game in a franchise then the IP owner could run with those ideas to make the fourth entry, for example. It'll never happen but one can dream.

Given Sony's recent string of questionable business decisions and showing their own customers what a bunch of shady pricks they are, they're probably desperate for any amount of cash injection to put on their quarterly report.

Edit: fixed typos from when I stupidly typed while barely conscious.

It's not exactly difficult to have more content than those services when they keep fucking around with exclusivity bullshit.

Some of us have been saying that for years

Not to mention generally shitty business practices and eve more arbitrary regional locking than you might think. I was living in a non-English speaking country back when I was willing to pay for Netflix and I tried watching an anime only to find I couldn't get the English dub. I contacted support and their answer was "You don't live in an English-speaking region so it doesn't make sense for you to have access to it 🤷🏻‍♂️". I stopped paying on the spot.

If this doesn't scream anti-preservation, I don't know what does.

Haven't heard of that one before. I'll give it a look even if it's just to have a potential alternative if WPS goes to crap on me.

Edit: Sadly, doesn't fit my requirements. Thanks anyway.

Free MS alternative. It's from a Chinese company and will occasionally hound you for their subscription but it's not needed to use in most everyday tasks.

Oh and a more niche note: it has themes so a true dark mode is possible, not like this far-too-common mud grey eyesore that everyone's using. Not a perk for everyone for but those of us who see white on black better than black on white, it's a godsend

As if the Chinese don't already have your data... You really think that just because MS Office is paid software that MS isn't also selling your data to the highest bidder?
