Unlike Imperial Storm Troopers, they sometimes hit their target.

Judging by Musk's previous styling choices, may I offer this?

I'm sure it won't have any of the defects of the cyberdumpster.

Good talking head. No thought behind some of those points, so a perfect GQP hopeful.

Yet another reason I'm glad I use youtube-dl.

Under-shaved, brown-robed and jovial, Benanti is adept at explaining how technology can change the world, “with humans ceding the power of choice to an algorithm that knows us too well. Some people treat AIs like idols, like oracles, like demigods. The risk is that they delegate critical thinking and decisional power to these machines.”

AI is about choices. He points out: “Already a few tens of thousands of years ago, the club could have been a very useful tool or a weapon to destroy others …”

The Italians, not pioneers in the technology, warn that AI prefigures a world in which progress does not optimise human capabilities, but replaces them.

While I certainly do not side with the Catholic Church and their moralistic dogma, it is valuable to pay attention to a group that has made it their mission to think about how humanity is affected by various things. Never mind that they have their own bias in how humanity should be conducting itself. If instead, you treat them as a think tank with a relatively narrow focus, then we can make use of their work in this area.

I'm relieved to see at least one world leader though listening to an expert on technology. The US Congress had a department just for interpreting and researching various high technology concepts, but in their infinite wisdom they decided they knew better and disbanded the department.

One may disagree with the Catholic churches interpretation of their explanations of how AI technology can affect humans, but we would be fools to completely disregard their reports and findings.

Ok, first, it only applies to Type 2 diabetes.

In a remarkable medical breakthrough, Chinese scientists have successfully cured a patient of type 2 diabetes through an innovative cell therapy approach.

Second, it was done on a case-by-case basis. Each person has their own therapy tailored for them. This does not appear to be a mass-solution.

The groundbreaking treatment involved transplanting lab-grown replicas of the patient’s own insulin-producing islet cells into their body. This ingenious approach effectively restored the patient’s pancreatic islet function, enabling the body to regulate blood sugar levels naturally without external intervention.

From the linked article:

According to a South China Morning Post report, the patient underwent the cell transplant in July 2021.

...

The new therapy involves programming the patient's peripheral blood mononuclear cells, transforming them into "seed cells" to recreate pancreatic islet tissue in an artificial environment. This approach leverages the body's regenerative capabilities, an emerging field known as regenerative medicine.

You give your top talent what they want. The problem is that they hired a consultant to find out what that was. The consultant, knowing on which side his bread was buttered, told the board what they wanted to hear, which is, after all, why they hired a consultant instead of just asking.

Wearing a hoodie with the words “We use Math” on the front, Google search boss Prabhakar Raghavan had an important message for employees at an all-hands meeting last month. But he first wanted them to settle in and get comfortable.

...

Raghavan said Google’s digital ad business had become “the envy of the world.” He noted that over the last three years, annual revenue has grown by more than $100 billion, exceeding Starbucks, Mazda and TikTok combined.

Does this mean you'll be using math to pay them more for producing more? (have to add /s)

Elon Musk admitted to using two secret alternate accounts on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in a deposition for a lawsuit against the billionaire. He said that he used some accounts on the social media site outside of his main public account when he was asked to clarify if he used an account on X that had been linked to him by several users on social media. Some users posted a screenshot of his X interface last year in which the additional account appeared to be visible.

Above is the recruitment poster that’s getting so much attention. Command Sgt. Major Keith DeBoo is pictured, holding a photo of his veteran grandfather Louis DeBoo. But German WWII soldiers were mistakenly added in the background around DeBoo.

As many have observed, these flashpoints show the growing reach of the so-called axis of resistance, the loose group of Iranian-backed militias that is attacking Israeli and U.S. interests across the Middle East. Less noted, however, has been the extent to which this broader conflict has blurred the sectarian divisions that have often shaped the region. After all, the vicious civil wars in Iraq, Syria, and Yemen have all had a Sunni-Shiite component; for years, Iran and Saudi Arabia have invoked sectarian loyalties in their long-running contest for regional dominance. Yet the war in Gaza has defied this tension: Palestinians are overwhelmingly Sunni Muslims, and Hamas emerged out of the Muslim Brotherhood, the most important Sunni Islamist movement, with roots in Egypt. How is it that Hamas has found some of its strongest allies in Shiite-led groups and regimes in Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen?

Trump’s legal team also tried to throw cold water on the idea in a filing earlier this week, writing that the “events of January 6 were not an ‘insurrection’ as they did not involve an organized attempt to overthrow or resist the U.S. government.”

Trump disagrees, apparently.

“They kept saying about what I said right after the insurrection,” he said outside Mar-a-Lago after arguments concluded in Washington, D.C. “I think it was an insurrection caused by Nancy Pelosi.

A clueless burglar was found dangling upside down from his shoelaces after getting stuck on a window frame while trying to break into a flat.

A court heard that Lee Kenneth Moore, 41, was discovered "moaning and groaning" by the couple living in the flat. The startled homeowner asked Moore what he was doing, to which the upside-down intruder replied: "I don't know where I am." Prosecutor Leila Taleb explained that Moore had used recycling bins to climb up to the small open window of the York city centre flat.

However, as he tried to squeeze through the window, his laces got caught in the frame and his foot became trapped in the window lock. Judge Simon Hickey described it as "one of the most inept burglaries that has appeared before me for quite some time" and sentenced Moore to two years and four months in prison.

Luckily, aside from the surveillance footage of the incident, police also had another tip to go off of - the suspect's name and phone number.

The driver gave police the information of the passenger, and police issued a subpoena to Lyft. Police said they “received the records showing the phone number and account used belongs to the defendant.”

A policewoman who was arrested over false suspicions of child sex abuse will receive compensation after detectives mistook her 32-year-old former husband for a 10-year-old boy in an intimate photo of the couple.

The County Court of Victoria has ordered Victoria Police to pay $85,000 for arresting and detaining the officer, whose ex-husband was under investigation for child sex abuse allegations.

Professional standards command detectives held the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, for almost five hours on February 4, 2019 after a separate investigation into her then husband, who was eventually convicted of child sex abuse.

“Read Me a Story, Stella” is a children’s picture book about a pair of siblings reading books together and building a doghouse. However, because the author’s name is Marie-Louise Gay, the book was added to a list of potentially “sexually explicit” books to be moved from the children’s section of the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (HCPL) system.

They think trans women have an unfair advantage in... fishing?

Three members of an English women’s fishing team in England are refusing to compete at the world championships due to the fact that one of their own teammates is trans.

The Shore Angling World Championships will take place in Italy in November, and the board of the sport’s governing body, the Angling Trust, has said it will not prevent trans angler Becky Lee Birtwhistle Hodges from applying to compete.

NEWPORT NEWS — The Newport News Education Association President condemned the premise of the school division’s motion to dismiss Abigail Zwerner’s pending $40 million lawsuit.

The motion was filed last week by attorneys representing the School Board and argues that Zwerner, who was shot in her classroom at Richneck Elementary in January by a 6-year-old student, is only entitled to file a worker’s compensation claim because the injury she sustained from the shooting is a “workplace injury,” and that the shooting was a hazard of the job.
