I have a surface pro 8 and love it for school work in grad school. I love the stylus for note-taking and load it up with pirated textbooks. Saved $670 - $780 (used vs new) on next semester's books.

I can't see myself buying a new one tho once I finish school.

I have the same approach of browsing all and blocking what I don't want as I come across it. Which in my case, happens to be mostly anime and shitposting communities.

I hadn't noticed until the posts were weeks old, so I didn't want to dig thru the mod log..

That's precisely why I left L.W. They also were removing community posts voicing opposition to threads federation. I witnessed it firsthand, where posts I commented in (and in which the majority of comments opposed it) were removed.

Now they removed the piracy communities again after promising not to. They are straight up untrustworthy and don't care about what their users actually want.

I am happy on feddit.de. They are defederated from Threads and the tankie instances.

Yeah lemmy.ml has gotten worse with tankies, but it's no where near as bad as the others. And I still want to see some lemmy.ml communities (tech, gaming).

But unless it's changed with some of the recent updates, blocking instances as a user (on lemmy) only blocks posts from the instance but still allows interaction with their users in comments of posts. It's different for kbin and mastodon.

I don't want the annoyance of arguing with tankies from their main instances. I'd rather be defederated.

Also, why go back to lemm.ee and do that when I don't need to on feddit.de? That seems kind of silly in the first place.

I'm happy on feddit.de, as they are really only defederated from the tankies and Threads.

I left L.W when they federated with Threads and tried lemm.ee, but dealing with the tankies is so annoying I had to find another new home and settled for feddit.de.

I remember a news segment where monozygotic (identical) twins had different results for their genealogy. Their efficacy and reproducibility should definitely be questioned.

Not to mention the problem of your DNA info being sold and used for nefarious purposes. Not just by hackers, but if the company is bought out by a different organization, they don't have to honor the terms of 23andMe or Ancestory.com regarding not selling you data.

Edit: Here's the story.

Their comment wasn't out of touch, but your faith in the mainstream DNA testing market certainly is.

The modern Republicans are domestic terrorists by their own admission. They deserve to be named and shamed for what they are.

Both sides are not alike.... The following is an excerpt from my blog post (no ads, no benefit to me).

In a study evaluating Left-Wing and Right-Wing domestic extremism between 1994 and 2020, there was one fatality as the result of Left-Wing extremism, versus 329 fatalities resulting from Far Right extremism in that 25 year period. [5]

The Far-Right movement is the oldest and most deadly form of domestic terrorism in the United States, and The Anti-Defamation League Center on Extremism found that the Far-Right is responsible for 98% of extremist murders in the U.S. [24] Furthermore, for nearly every year since 2011, Far-Right terrorist attacks/plots have accounted for over half of all terror attacks/plots in the United States. [21]

In the U.S., Right-Wing extremism was responsible for two-thirds of all failed, foiled, or successful terror attacks in 2019, and was responsible for 90% of attacks in the first half of 2020 alone. [21] Since 2013, Far-Right extremism has been responsible for more terror attacks/plots than the Left-Wing, ethnonationalism, or religiously motivated attacks/plots. [21]

Now that sounds like a qanon conspiracy....

I think the reality is that their claimed ideals and actions do not align, and they are a party of projection.

I'm not defending them whatsoever, but your narrative comes off like a looney conspiracy theory the alt-right, qanon, or MAGA radicals would push.

It's different on other platforms (like mastodon) but on lemmy, it only blocks posts from the blocked instance. Users from Threads would still be interacting in comments with the user who blocks their instance.

Regardless, I believe they should be defederated by instance admins on ethical grounds. Meta/FB have run unethical, uninformed experiments on their users, including purposefully inducing depression in their users.

The fact that Meta has assisted in genocide should be grounds for defederation by instances which claim to protect and care about their users.

Meta's platforms have also played a key role in radicalizing users, and they purposefully marketed Threads to far-right extremists.

Here's my argument with citations

There's also good arguments to defederate and block them from the fedivers based on EEE.

If an instance's admins claim they care about protecting their users and providing a safe, healthy community but are federated with Threads, then they are either uninformed or liars.
