Very true. I vaguely recall someone on another thread saying a game is "unplayable" if it's not running 4k resolution and that PC gamers with 4k monitors are the majority

I'd say Space Marine 1 did a significant job in making the franchise more nerd-mainstream. Before it, it was the Dawn of War game and expansions. Slow and steady growth of awareness, I think

One of the best cautionary tales for developers

500+ on Steam, another 500+ on GOG. Nearly nothing played. Ugh.

Nah, the problem is that AI is only being used to generate static content, "finished" assets. Where are the npcs with organic dialogue and more realistic reactions to player input? That's the AI that I've seen being promised and not being delivered anywhere.

So, re-release Tay as a sex chatbot, got it, on it!

That'd still be better than Xbox S, Xbox Series X, Xbox One S

Age of Empires 2, despite being Microsoft owned, is easily one of the best strategy games of all time and has very clearly stood the test of time. It's over 25 years old and people kept playing it a lot even before the HD remakes. I remember reading that the folks that made the 1st game often had to choose between "actual history or hollywood history" for some details, often going for hollywood because it made for a more fun experience.

I suspect Factorio might stand the test of time as well, and it's clearly something made by someone who really understands the medium. I haven't begun my factory yet.

Last week, as this discussion was getting media attention, Meta said that "most of those posts only stay up for 4-8 hours before the (uploader) deletes it, before we've had time to review"

Dunno how truthful that statement is, but that really shows how easy it is to game their system

Right now at least, AI is being more of a headache than anything in coding. Microsoft itself was responsible for one such gaffe in May, as an actual coder had to tell the AI to fix an error, again and again, as each time it'd make a different mistake

The main problem is that the platforms have a money incentive to keep spam and scam posts online. They pay meta and TikTok for boosts, the scam gets boosted, all done.

Frankly, it seems like the problem could be solved by forcing the platforms to get a Know Your Customer level of information and putting that info on every boosted post, so people know who's paying for that.

Buuuut, it's Brazil. Justice and fairness only ever happen as side effects from judges' decisions

>be with family last weekend
>little 5 year old cousing playing with MLP toys in the living room
>announces we are all invited to the wedding
>aunt asks who's getting married
>fluttershy and applejack
>aunt says "They can't get married"
>cousin is distraught "why not!?"
>aunt says "because girls can't marry other girls"
>cousin is angry "who says?"
>aunt "god says"
>cousin "then I'm going to worship satan"

fucking awesome, lemme tell you

Sorry, that's my weekly allotment of pixels

I've been thinking of self hosting a mastodon (gotosocial, more specifically) + a matrix server on an old computer I have, but sometimes I might need to turn it off for 2 days or more (not to mention some energy or internet outages that might happen here)

I suppose with the mastodon part the server will properly sync and download whatever's been missing, but I'm not entirely sure that'll be the case with matrix. If anyone sent me a DM on there while my server was down, would it get through after it was back up?

The site also has pages for keeping track of what has been delisted from specific vendors, such as Steam, Epic or GOG for PC

Some weeks ago, I've come across Delta Chat, whose main thing is "(near) instant messaging using your email"

That left me thinking, has this been attempted before? If not, why? Also, why (besides servers' limitations as means to fight spam) isn't this solution used more often, given that e-mail has been a decentralized solution for well over 40 years now?

Asking mostly because I have fuckloads of video courses, plus a number of movies, that I have yet to even check if the content is as good as their titles imply and I really feel like I'm mostly hoarding this stuff because I have no fucking clue.

For those that can't read the image:

>playing some mtg with my college group that meets up at my best friend's every friday
>one of the players asks if his friend can join next time we play
>nobody has a problem with it
>next friday rolls around
>everybody gets set up
>knock on the door
>best friend opens the door
>immediate regret
>actual fucking fecal smell emanates from this mass of unkempt hairy adipose
>try my god damndest to be polite and try to ignore the smell and just play.
>he picks up the game pretty quickly, and thankfully he doesn't speak too often because each time he opens his mouth the halitose burns my nostrils.
>we tolerate this for exactly 10 minutes before the poli-sci dude in our group slams his can of altoids on the plaguelord's side of the table and blurts "do not fucking speak in my direction again until you've fucking emptied this your breath smells like death."
>dead fucking silence for 10 seconds.
>plaguelord gets up, apologizes, and leaves
>we try to pretend this never happened.
>next week rolls around, its still on everyone's mind.
>knock on the door
>takes a few moments to recognize the stranger in front of us
>holy shit its the plaguelord, and he's fucking clean
>completely shaved his patchy neckbeard
>is wearing what looks like a brand new clothes, his jeans even still have a sticker on them
>smells vaguely like strawberries instead of rotten onions
>teeth still stained but the halitose is completely gone and replaced with mint.
>apologized for last week, asked if he could play again
>fast forward a few months and now he's a regular at our table, he even brings homemade snacks.
Has this ever happened in your groups or is this some sort of anomaly/divine intervention?

Although playing online works, I haven't tried a direct connection/invite with another person, due to me lacking PC master race friends.

In the general server list, I think the SA region stands for South America? In any case, my ping was really high, so actually playing online is not feasible for me.

I'm using IGG games' torrent version, it was a simple extract and run. The fake steam account name defaults to NooB, so I recommend you change it in the following folder: %appdata%\Roaming\Goldberg SteamEmu Saves\settings - The account_name.txt is just the shown name, while the user_steam_id.txt is the acc number. I've changed both. Keep in mind that changing the id might make your saves disappear, so you'll have to create a new world, then copy over the save files - %appdata%\Local\Pal\Saved

If you're a fan of survival crafting, this game is a must play. The fact that you can play solo and change the world settings (exp rate, stamina depletion, hunger, etc) anytime before entering makes it perfect for all skill levels. I just think the default capture rate is too low, but I guess it makes more sense when you're online in a guild?

No idea how many hours I've spent playing, but I'm definitely buying this game in a few months.

This is a 1994 book about the many woes that Unix derived systems brought to sysadmins that were used to other solutions. Considering the number of commands that Linux still uses, it's definitely worth a read.
