Double VPN, first one is orbot/psiphon and then your VPN.

Easy on Linux, not so easy on other platforms, especially non-rooted android or iphones

I see quite a few comments trashing this article, why?

It gives solid advice while reminding the reader that this is not perfect.

If I was Snowden this is not enough at all, but If I was an illegal immigrant in a country full of others like me? I think this article plus the final note about past data, does actually give a very solid advice.

I would argue that those who follow this guide, and take to heart the final notes and does something about past information (e.g move to a new address, change some habits, etc) would not be discovered in a mass deportation. Again, if you are an individual who is uniquely targeted by a government, this is not enough.

And yeah, they missed some points and this isn't perfect, but anyone who is serious would do more research anyway, so I actually think this a good article.

Cashless can only work if you adopt a digital cash such as monero, other wise you are taking away privacy, control and possibly small transactions (depending on what fees are common in your country)

In a cashless society banks and credit companies become your rulers as you have no real way to bypass them.

I suspect that any country that tries to go cashless without a real cash alternative, will just find itself with a new form of cash (gold, silver, etc) since eventually there will be enough people trying to avoid fees and taxes

Is this a good guide?

Some of them are funny indeed

I mean... This is a site for posting things, and I posted a thing. Trust me, this isn't the highlight of my day or something that deeply bothers me

I didn't take it personally, just confused and amused at the situation

I don't think it's a joke community, it seems to just be about hating Linux and not allowing any Linux positivity or praise

[–] MTK@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Nah, this seems like a community to dunk on Linux

Saw a post without noticing the community and commented a genuine comment with good intentions.

Apparently it was against the rules of that community and I was banned.

My (removed) comment:

And yeah, the last comment was sarcasm.

I just don't really understand why is there a community for shitting on Linux? Like I can get not liking it, and hating the Linux die hard fans, but it really is an amazing thing that is integral to almost all modern computing... Kind of like hating social media by having a facebook page for it.

damn Telescreens

I suspect that this is the direct result of AI generated content just overwhelming any real content.

I tried ddg, google, bing, quant, and none of them really help me find information I want these days.

Perplexity seems to work but I don't like the idea of AI giving me "facts" since they are mostly based on other AI posts

ETA: someone suggested SearXNG and after using it a bit it seems to be much better compared to ddg and the rest.

I have a home server and I have some HTTP services running on it. I'm thinking if I should even bother with HTTPS, as I'm already using tail scale which should be peer-to-peer and encrypted. So I shouldn't worry about any men in the middle.

Am I missing something?

It just feels wrong to work with non-S HTTP :(

Hi!

I have an HP 360 which has a touch screen and I never found a DE that is great for both regular input and touch input.

Kde is great for regular stuff but meh with touch, gnome is the other way around.

I was thinking of trying out hyperland but didn't look into it's touch compitability.

Any suggestions?

I use arch btw.
