Counterpoint: congress does their jobs exactly how their corporate owners want them to. Congress does not serve the best interests of the people.

I think it's pretty scary. Completely overwhelming the media and internet with near-infinite variations of their propaganda is the most powerful way I can imagine for them to carry out the stuff you're more worried about, with even less resistance.

It's not the lack of AI safeguards themselves that worry me, it's the constant stream of propaganda drowning out reality that worries me.

I've tried a couple and they all return worse results on average. Scrolling down past the LLM garbage and paying attention to which results are real is less work than re-querying DDG 4 times to get a decent result.

I haven't tried kagi, but I've heard similar anecdotes here on Lemmy. I'm not opposed to paying. The ad model is unsustainably at best.

Corporations effectively run the government.

Yes, absolutely agree.

This is the part not being reported in the news.

Many of us are simply working half as much as we did when we were remote. It's not worth trying to impress these people. They hate us.

Lazy people with tech salaries. I have a tech salary but I'm not lazy enough to enjoy spending 80 dollars on dinner for two that would cost 35 if I drove my damn self.

You can't get anything from Uber eats for less than $30 in my city.

$10 wouldn't even cover ONE of the service fees.

Unfortunately it's pocket change for them.

Meaningless wager that despite not paying off still probably taught them an enormous amount about reddit and its users.

Ah so you're just kind of rude, cool.
