They got gigs by connections! Same is still true today. Personal connections get you the gig.

But in the before times, no one had social media. Nowadays everyone has it and is almost a necessity for a musician to get their voice and music out there. You're losing out if you don't have a "portfolio" through your socmed accounts.

I hate to say it and sound like I'm defending them, but here we go.

As a gigging musician in the Philippines, Meta apps like Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger are some of the most important social media platforms to promote my work and to connect to potential clients.

I hate Meta and I hate that I have no choice on the Meta AI shit they've rolled out. But worse of all, I hate that I have no choice but to use Meta for my livelihood. There's just no alternative.

Thanks, didn't know of this function. In my A50s it's under Battery and Device Care

Users have the option to opt out of this by toggling off a “feature” in the app called “See My Selfie in Ads,” but according to 404 Media’s testing this feature is on by default.

Option? More like a chance to opt out. Option means users get to choose to opt in.

This type of thing shouldn't be legal. I just learned of LinkedIn doing the same thing with user content and an "opt out" setting, and I immediately toggled it off. FFS someone regulate these idiots

Profit? It's called financial well-being.

If this is serious the answer is no

Which then just feeds to the system. But as this is a globally impactful thing, is there any real world need that outweighs the harm?

I get what you're saying, but there isn't really any NEED for that

Genuine question: why do we need this type of thing?

Especially in view of the harm it can cause, what's the point of creating this aside from generating shareholder value?

Sure, creating a video out of text quickly is cool, but is there an actual need for this?

I'm a sound engineer and I use different DAWs for different purposes. There's just no one DAW that does all, so this is a compromise I'm happy to go with.

When I do podcast editing, I use Audacity to split multi-track WAV files and for truncating silence. It's just waaaay easier to do this there than on Reaper. Plus it has a loopback recording feature built-in which I use for Zoom meeting recordings etc.

I use Pro Tools for audio post, but for most of what I do I'm a Reaper guy. It's very powerful as you said and it just works.

I know it can be a hassle switching DAWs (muscle memory on shortcuts can get weird), but for me, I like making the most of the strengths of a tool rather than forcing something to do everything.
