And…you listed off all the same hobbies I picked up, only substitute guitar.

Do you write by hand? My writing is divergent between fountain pens with journals for my kids and the stories I write on a PC.

It sounds like you need better hobbies, my man.

I felt like that at my boring engineering job doing turbine/motor design. I made more than my buddies working for Boeing (joke is REALLY on them now) and had much better benefits, but they made planes.

I picked up a bunch of hobbies that work well with WFH and that ended up filling the void.

We see this a lot in engineering as well. The flashy and defense companies have undergrads lined up and frothing at the mouth to try and work for them.

Then the utility companies pay better, better benefits, and at 4pm you are done. Meanwhile the high profile companies have new hires doing bitch work and working 60 hours a week.

Just make the modulus of elasticity more agile. Problem solved!

I honestly don’t know if they were broken. A light would come on saying it needed service. We would turn it off, drain it, clean it, then wait for the service guy.

I worked at a McDonalds in high school, and there were two reasons it was out of order: 1) standard “machine is broken” and 2) cleaning issues.

It took an employee almost an entire shift to clean the machine appropriately to pass health inspection. To their credit, there was never any half ass cleaning attempts, we always had to sterilize the machine. People would come in and joke about how the machine is down, “haha”, but in reality some poor sap is scrubbing down the parts that look like they belong in a bondage torture film.

Good.

My employer decided to embrace WFH from the top down. They are not renewing leases for sales spaces (easiest since they are not tied to labs) and are slowly crunching down to only what need to be in person - R&D and the guys that go out in the field. They do need large warehouse space for multiple 18 wheeler trucks and all the equipment.

Right now we do the stupid hybrid thing, but I just accept it because it’s one day a week and my boss^2 buys us all lunch. He is a really smart Boomer that is lonely and also helps us solve a lot of engineering issues so it is what it is.

I attempted to delete all my posts using one of those nuke-Reddit scripts and my account got banned for it.

I left Reddit. Had over 600k Karma after a few years answering all kinds of questions from Veteran help to complex engineering.

Fuck Reddit. Will never go back. It’s a shell of what it was only a few years ago.
