Is anyone using this, and has it had any positive impact for you?

Anyone could do this. But since this only happens in Dubai, it can't be that smart of a decision.

Ah, the propaganda war has started.
It's missing the fact that the nix store can be huge, even if garbage collected regularly. This prevents me from using nix on my Ubuntu laptop with limited HDD space.
If my driving teacher was right, as long as you don't go on a highway you can even push a wheelbarrow on a road, since it has a wheel.
On a highway your wheelbarrow needs to be able to do 60km/h, but if you can run that fast you are good.
