The issue around people being notified that an unknown tracker is following them to stop people stalking. This is for Google's and Apple's AirTags. Apple has not yet implemented this into their own devices. It's not a Google problem, it's Apple.

My Google Pixel Bud fell into a bush the other day. Despite knowing its basic vicinity I still couldn't find it. I used the find feature which makes it ring loud but still had issues as cars on the road were too noisy. I had to wait until after 8PM to try again. Thankfully I managed to but it really wasn't easy!

The trouble is Samsung is only for it's own ecosystem. The Google version should render the Samsung one obsolete.

Has Apple addressed the security issues that Google was holding out for before they released their tracking network?

Mod. I hate that this mod keeps being advertised without mentioning it's a mod in the title.

Moved to Proton mail from GMail. At the same time I purchased a new domain and got SimpleLogin to create new aliases for all my sites and services. The only site that knows my real address is Proton itself and SimpleLogin.

I also ditched Chrome for Firefox. I honestly prefer Chrome but hate how controlling Google is with Chrome. I also switched to Duckduckgo. I've never actually felt less tracked in a long time as a result. Actually eye opening. I used Incognito so often for Google searches to not be tracked. Now I can search freely without then seeing ads or content related to that search elsewhere.

I read on the Jellyfin site that the Pi5 has no hardware encoders...

https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/administration/hardware-acceleration

Since I'm only streaming locally (on a Pi4) I don't need to record anything but still.

You can also enable the easy list for cookies in uBlock Origin. It misses some but for the most part it works.

I'm a VMware and Windows admin in my work life. I don't have extensive knowledge of Linux but I have been running Raspberry Pis at home. I can't remember why but I started to migrate away from installed applications to docker. It simplifies the process should I need to reload the OS or even migrate to a new Pi. I use a single docker-compose file that I just need to copy to the new Pi and then run to get my apps back up and running.

linuxserver.io make some good images and have example configs for docker-compose

If you want to have a play just install something basic, like Pihole.

My wife changed her Windows work laptop last week. Her Desktop is synced to OneDrive so really she just needs to login. Despite that she was panicking that her PDF's were gone. They weren't, it's just that the new laptop has a newer version of Adobe Reader which uses an updated icon.

Some people are just tech illiterate and the slightest difference can be upsetting. My mum's the same with her phone. Using Google Maps to navigate is an achievement for her and I've been telling her to use it for years. The first time she did she reached her destination literally shaking. She was also amazed with herself that she had done it.
