I'm mostly curious about the laptops part because many laptops with discrete GPUs and high power components often come with 125 watt or more charging bricks, which is pushing the limits of USB Power Delivery without more specific cables and chargers. If someone launches a laptop (well more like a portable workstation) that needs 200-300 watts how're they going to power that over USB C, and what kinds of malicious compliance are we going to see for these edgecases?

These are the same folks that released "USB 3.2 Gen 2x2" as an actual name for a specification (which if I'm remembering my USB specs correctly is the current branding for the original USB 3 spec)and muddied the waters so badly that most companiesnand reviewers just state the speed of the port rather than the version

All prices have gone up in the same window you describe!

Don't forget power companies can also work with smart thermostat manufacturers and car manufacturers to implement demand side tweaks to reduce power consumption. If they need to drop demand by some number of megawatts, they can adjust everyone's thermostate by 1 degree temporarily and easily meet that need, or slow electric car charging by half a kilowatt. As long as there's a manual override for users who need to charge right then or need to change the thermostat right then, this can easily make a significant dent in the variability of the grid with renewables

I appreciate seeing a serious, well thought out comment posted from a lemmynsfw account!

My understanding is that if electrical demand starts outstripping supply the sinewave can start getting badly mishapen.

From watching videos about synthesizers and playing with VCV Rack I've learned far more about waveforms than I ever did from any electrical education or research

Weird Al's Don't Download This Song was initially released as a free download too

The other possibility of course is the developers themselves seeded keys to display this notice to pirates who might not otherwise purchase the software legitimately. There's plenty of well-known cases where a developer has released pirated copies/keys into the wild.

At a previous job the Sysadmin who had largely built most the infrastructure heavily used colored zip ties to label cables. 2 blue zip ties goes to this while 4 blue zip ties goes to that, 3 red zip ties goes to this other thing, etc. In hindsight i wonder if part of it was to be intentionally vague to anyone else on the team and force them to come to him for help identifying, since he seemed to love that kind of thing, but I digress.

It's a very affordable system to use at home. Maybe one color per VLAN and on cables where it's important to know one from another do different counts of zip ties. I suppose the same result could also be achieved with colored electrical tape too.

Sorry to Necro a nearly month-old thread but figured its worth sharing

Reminds me of the old joke "what's the difference between libertarians and republicans? Libertarians know the legal age of consent in all 50 states"
