I was making a joke using the absurdity of what I put together as a hobby project over the past couple years as an example to reinforce the comment I replied to. I’ve spent my whole career in IT and it’s absurd the level of knowledge a lot of career or even hobbyist IT folks expect the general public to have.

My generator cost $8k installed.

I ran all the cables myself, still cost $1k for the materials.

Doorbell camera $200.

PoE cameras averages to $174 each or ~$2,500

UPS’s: $300 combined

MiniPC: $500

Cage and mounts: $150

Isolated cameras: $30 ea

SD cards: $15 ea

All told I have over $13k invested easily and it would easily be over twice as much without knowing how to do it myself. Anyone giving folks shit for using WiFi security systems is out of touch.

I don’t know why everyone doesn’t do what I did. I have a WiFi doorbell camera but I also have 13 other cameras that cover the entire perimeter of my house connected to a PoE switch. My switch is on an UPS and connected to an outlet my natural gas generator cutover powers. My office (includes my miniPC running HAOS and frigate) is also on an UPS plugged into outlets my generator cutover powers in a locked cage inside a vented drawer with a 120mm exhaust fan to keep air circulation going in the drawer. All motion is recorded and saved to my local NAS (that is in the same locked cage) for 30 days and it syncs the recordings directory to the cloud. I have isolated cameras that look like usb chargers that record motion on a loop to 128GB micro sd cards aimed at all entry/exit points, hallways, and points is interest. Everything is pretty much set it and forget it. I get notified of any motion on my property regardless of my location and the jpeg captures are immediately sent to a dedicated email I setup should something unforeseen happens to the recorded video. If my or my partners cell phone is not on the WiFi all the cameras (except the doorbell and isolated ones) are set to siren mode on movement detection and they are surprisingly loud especially if two or three are going off at once.

Exactly how I ended up on debrid, I don’t know what the hell I’m doing anymore, I don’t mind paying but I got fed up with everything getting fractured and torn apart due to greedy ass licensing, I wouldn’t have even minded the price increases if it was one, maybe two, services but it’s absolutely ridiculous. I remember paying for up faith and family for a month to binge a show I wanted to watch and really started questioning how dumb I’d become. I got my moneys worth (imo) since I canceled after a month but I don’t have any desire to play the subscribe and cancel game either and it’s become pervasive if you just want to watch something. I knew it would get bad but I’d hoped for better, like Netflix and another competitor fighting for distribution supremacy kind of like Steam. That went to compete shit and I was naive af.

Why would they remove heat any differently, it’s the same concept cooling a fridge or freezer as a room. Am I too ignorant to understand why this is crazy because I want my mind blown.

I’m still getting my feet wet with HAOS. Mainly got it for frigate but I’ve been trying to do more and more with it every week and I think I’m way over my head lol. It seems really cool if you know how to make everything work but I’m still trying to figure out so much I end up having to walk away and come back to it later after getting confused. It’s helped a bit to start writing out what I’m trying to do on paper and tinker with things while keeping notes.

My best friend in a small town high school and I were outcasts but because of that we were huge gym rats. We didn’t play any sports but would ditch study hall, shop, and PT and lift in the gym. This was mid nineties and I remember us doing the bodies for life challenge even though we were young and didn’t have a starting body to work from. The most pride I have from those days is we put up a sign above the gym that said “leave your ego at the door”, we would help and stick up for anyone and everyone no matter what, a couple of our classmates parents came in to lift with us while their kids were at practice and thanked us. That meant a lot as a teenager.

I really appreciate your comment but yes, I use frigate on an HAOS system. It works incredible and I have six of their cameras running along with four others from a different brand. The other four I can manipulate completely via Firefox on HAOS. The Reolink cameras just have no other option than doing the initial setup and advanced configurations from windows. So I keep a lab pc connected to that environment just so if I want to tweek anything like fps, resolution, network settings (IP, gateway, etc) that I’m able to do so. The web interface once enabling the https service on the camera has garbage capabilities compared to my other cameras. It’s not a huge deal, I haven’t had to get into them for advanced settings in a few months but it really annoys me that I can’t do initial configuration and advanced settings from Linux.

I’m trying to figure out what to do with my lab workstation. If I want to mess with the settings of my Reolink cameras windows seems to be the only stable option sadly. I’ve tried their android software and it’s garbage. The web interface is very limited after enabling it in the settings via their software. Wine has not worked well for me. It’s an isolated lan so it’s not a huge deal but I really wish there was a Linux build. I love the hardware and don’t want to replace the physical cameras. Just so stupid they won’t support a Linux client.

Unfortunately for folks with genuine curiosity, feigning ignorance on information that is perceived to be commonly known or understood is a very common tactic of bad faith actors who attempt to slowly erode a discussion as part of trolling or manipulation. It has put a lot of folks off to the point where they would rather advise to look it up and disengage rather than take a chance it’s another game down the rabbit hole. Reading your dialogue as a third party it illuminates as such even if unintentionally so.

That only had 262 people aboard the flight though.

This is amazing. I was curious if you held an original thought this entire chain as I was reading it and your response ended up being “read this Wikipedia section for my thoughts”. I will concede that you are an astute parrot.
