It’s easier for me to control my Sonos devices through Home Assistant and dashboards I’ve created, rather than using the Sonos app itself. It’s like they hired some McKinsey consultants to make the app as useless as it can be.

PiHole, Plex and the related “*arr” apps. I also self-host my home automation platform (Home Assistant).

Reason number %large_number% + 1 why support for Ukraine cannot falter. Russia cannot win its offensive there and continue to spread its poison across the world.

This is me as well. I haven’t downloaded music since I got Spotify. I just wish the movie industry had similar options. No I will not sign up for 15 different streaming platforms. There are much easier ways to solve that problem.

Just checked out Half as Interesting and realized it’s the same guy as Wendover. Recognized the voice immediately.

Thanks for the list! I actually got nebula because of RealLifeLore and Wendover. I’ve since subscribed to TLDR News and Real Engineering so I’ll have to give the other creators on your list a view.

Not enough content on Nebula. I subscribed because of a couple YouRubers I follow, but there’s just not much there (at least that I watch).

I would think in a way it’s like what happens with the music industry. Don’t get me wrong, that industry has its own problems, but for the vast majority of music, I can listen to it on Spotify, YT music, Apple Music, etc. I don’t need to sign up for Sony+ to listen to their artists, etc.

Same should have happened to the movie industry.

That’s exactly what I use them for. LED strips, ESP32 controllers, cables, ZigBee devices for home automation, etc.

Or follow the one good thing the music industry does.. allow music across different platforms. I can listen to the same songs on YouTube Music, Spotify, Apple, etc. none of this “get the XYZ app to listen to a band, and another app to listen to others”.

I need that for my Roku. I may just write an automation in Home Assistant that will switch to whatever app I programmed if I press the Paramount+ button. Unfortunately that means I need to install that app on the Roku itself.

Not sure how this is emptily shilling though. Am I paying for a service? Yes. Will I stop paying for a service if they start “refusing features?” Also yes.

Like I said in another comment, I was happy with Netflix back in the day, but now, nope. I have self hosted alternatives.

If a service is not worth it for me, I stop paying. Different people have that line at different levels, and for me, today’s Spotify Premium is worth it. In the future it may not be.

No need to be so hostile.
