I’ve never understood why we need straws. I get it for a milkshake but I don’t understand why a restaurant gives me a glass with a straw in it. Do people use straws at home?

How’s battery life?

I am also interested in an egpu but not for gaming, just for running local AI models. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Yes. Monitoring GitHub for releases is great (especially if the project posts change logs). Also, if you are a developer and need to monitor library updates for any deps you app might have, many of those sites also have rss feeds. For example: https://libraries.io/

I’m at my laptop all day for work so I use it on my laptop, desktop, and phone so syncing is important. Since it support Google reader api, there are a ton of different clients for it too.

I’ve also set my wife up with her own account and it makes sharing articles and feeds with her easy.

I’m a big self hoster and already have an environment set up for it. I don’t know if it is worth setting up servers and vpns and security just for rss.

I use self hosted FreshRSS. I has:

  • news straight from the section I care about in chronological order order
  • new blog updates
  • music review updates
  • Bandcamp releases from artists/labels I follow
  • open source software releases I follow
  • YouTube updates from channels I follow.
  • etc

It is by far the best way to get updates about just the things you care about.

I was using freshrss which can grab the rad feed for a channel, but I’ve moved to tube archivist with a Jellyfin plugin. Now they are all predownloaded and just show up on my tv via Jellyfin app.

It’s a way better way to keep track of what you want to watch.

Have you considered your local library? A lot of them have an excellent dvd/blu-ray selection especially when it comes to documentaries.

I know it is a little more work but you also get a lot more control of how you rip it.

Also, in the US, many libraries give you free access to the Kanopy streaming service which has a lot of documentaries on it.

I’ve had my 13” for about 18 months and it has been a fantastic laptop.

The keyboard is way better than my MacBook m1. The touchpad is comparable (none are as good as Mac touchpads but it is miles ahead of most laptops). Some people complain about the hinges but I’m not sure why. If I’m doing something intensive the fans come on. They certainly aren’t silent but I wouldn’t consider them noisy compared to laptops I’ve had in the past (including my older intel MacBook)

I run fedora mostly out of the box without issues. My one complaint would be lack of S3 sleep which can cause a lot of battery drain during suspend. I use a hybrid approach where it now suspends for 30 minutes then goes into hibernation. That works well although I miss the instant on.

I expect I’ll stay with framework for the future. I haven’t had to do any upgrades or replacements but it is really nice knowing I can.

NASA’s biggest issue over the last 35 years is that it became a political target. It is really hard to do long term design when your mission changes every 4 years along with a different budget. NASA should have a budget that is only reapproved every 30 years and should not have to worry about outside influence from a president dictating its mission.

It seems like it is time to nationalize Boeing.
