I literally just stopped using it yesterday but can't remember why. I also think it had something to do with not being able to copy/paste. I know I also didn't love that it doesn't seem to have a memory function, though nor does the app I replaced it with.

I've considered that too, but thanks for the reminder!
This sounds like something I should look into. I already run pfsense and wanted to look into a pihole, but if I can do it all in pfsense that'll work out even better. Thanks!
I can only speak anecdotally, but I've bought dozens of used network/server components and refurb drives off eBay over the past few years and haven't had a single bad experience. Once a seller forgot to send one of two cables I ordered and immediately shipped the second on their dime. As long as you're buying from sellers with good feedback you're likely going to be fine. That said, I can't speak to their warranty system as I've never used it.
Also, if I recall correctly Newegg got bought by some conglomerate a few years back and has apparently started the process of enshitiffication. That's just something I recall hearing though - I think I've only ever shopped with them once, years back.
Very cool writeup! I also love the rollercoaster that is your blog categories. We've got everything from free software, gun violence, deadbeat dads, and ... spaghetti.
For real though, great stuff! I'm always happy to come across legit oldschool-style blogs without a commercial agenda.
I fundamentally agree with the premise of the article, but did anyone else find it strange how much the writer mentioned the show Suits?
I'm betting AI will "fill the gaps" for a while until profits start to drop due to AI not being ready for primetime in most capacities. Then they'll start hiring back real people to fix the damage for a few years before trying it all over again.
YES! The haunted hotel is hands down one of my all-time favorite moments in gaming. Even with the game's primitive (by modern standards) graphics, I don't think I've ever played through a scarier experience. I think the only thing that comes close was my first few hours playing The Forest.
