Yeah also iOS is getting RCS support soon so the whole point is moot. The whole blue bubble thing is a lot of people with way too much time on their hands to get worried about stuff that doesn't matter at all.

Whole saga has been stupid
I never saw a good use for them at all, but people seem to love the minis. I think they might be big with older folks who don't want a large tablet, but have shit eye sight and want a couch device that's easier to read than a phone. That's my theory anyway.
Yeah agreed on the trending problem on Mastodon. In fact, as a whole it does a pretty poor job of serving interesting content without putting in some work. The only way I've been able to get a stream of stuff I actually want to see is by filtering a lot of stuff out and following a lot of specific hashtags.
I think the problem they're wrestling with is definitely technical but also partly philosophical. Because when you start doing trending content, you start looking at some amount of algorithmic aggregation and that can get messy when you're positioning yourself as a network that specifically doesn't play the algorithmic BS game like the Metas and Twitters of the world.
I dunno how I could have missed it. There's been like 20 posts about it it seems like.
Yeah that's what I'm curious about. I have a US apple account because that's where I'm from, but I live in the EU and don't really wanna change accounts or screw with anything.
Too late, we just canceled a couple months ago
Yeah it's pretty wild how bad search results have been lately. The unfettered proliferation of AI bullshit on the internet is gonna have some really goddamn irritating impacts on just about everything I think.
Most decent new cars don't have any major issues that would strand you on the side of the road for the first 10 years
Yeah it probably is in terms of an off the shelf, purpose built option with no tinkering. They're pretty snappy as well. Decent hardware in there it seems.
We have an ATV but our wireless network is kinda shit and we kept having connectivity issues between the ATV and the Plex server we were running on the Mini so we just went all in on running the Mini as the media player and Plex server in one to avoid it. Bonus was that we now have a very capable console game emulator hooked up to the TV too. Also we just ditched our last streaming subscription so all we were using the ATV for was the Plex app.
It's a bit overkill but I will say as a server and emulator the new apple silicon minis are great. Zero fan noise ever and they sip electricity and run really cool.
I think they know the original price is bad but also that there's a significant chunk of people who either don't care or will forget to call in about a price reduction. They've probably figured out a fairly reliable figure as to what percent of their customers will or won't haggle and run revenue projections off of that.
Yeah and anybody complaining about it at that point is just being a whiny child.
