I feel like humour on Lemmy is also degrading. About a year ago, my shitposts used to get get so many upvotes, nowadays, it's like people don't understand the meaning of most jokes, or take shitposts seriously. And I'm not even talking aboit posting on random communities, I'm talking aboit shitposts on c/shitpostlemmy. And not just my shitposts, almost all shitposts. Similarly, people downvoted unpopular opinions on c/unpopularopinion. This was not a thing about 6 months to a year ago.

I have an Ubuntu server, with some docker containers on one machine, Fedora with podman containers on another whicj I only use sometimes.

It connects using SSH only, iirc. So, I cannot say anything aboit proxmox. It does show all the mounted drives in the overview with locations and used space etc., which is a plus for me.

You should give it a try.

I use server box on my android phone. It's available for iOS too.

I don't actually take any actions using this app, but health check etc. is really useful. It has docker and podman support.

Why did gitlab block it?

[–] nutbutter@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I would also say that use something like gitlab or codeberg, instead of github.

I think if you open-source it now, a subset of people might be willing to take a look at it, some might even contribute to the code.

Also, a majority of people, here, hate LLMs. Many are fine with locally hosted ones, but everyone hates the big tech.

Your app relies on cloud hosted services, like for LLMs and messaging. Telegram is not FOSS, not even encrypted. We are self-hosters, this is just a small app which links cloud services to you.

Also, the whole post content is AI-generated, probably your app is vibe-coded too. Considering you're not a professional dev, how can you claim that the app you made is "safe"?

There are so many things wrong with your post, and that's why you're downvoted so much.

This is Lemmy/PieFed, not Reddit.

My question is, WHY is this app closed source?

[–] nutbutter@discuss.tchncs.de 52 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (7 children)

Tldr? How?

...

An app update on Motorola phones has started hijacking the Amazon app for the sake of injecting an affiliate code. To do that, tapping the app icon opens the user’s browser and immediately redirects to the Amazon app. It’s a “blink and you missed it” moment. This only happens when the user opens the Amazon app from the app drawer – not the homescreen pages.

...

We verified on a Razr (2026) running an older Smart Feed v2.03.0056 that this does not happen. Our Razr Fold, with app version 2.03.0070, has started showing this behavior, so it’s the latest update that’s to blame for hijacking the user’s intent. We couldn’t replicate this on a Moto G Stylus (2026) running the same app version, though. Sideloading the app, for reasons unclear, doesn’t seem to trigger this behavior, as manually installing the updated version on the aforementioned Razr (2026) didn’t show the same behavior.

In further digging, we noticed that the URL the phone opens up is “kira-abboud.com,” a website that references fashion influencer “@kirasfashionfinds.” Notably, this exact URL isn’t listed anywhere on Abboud’s social media, and the affiliate codes don’t match up either. The redirect coming from Motorola phones is using Amazona affiliate code “sramz-kff-008-20” which is completely different from any of the codes we saw from links shared by Abboud’s accounts and linked websites.

They're really cheap. This one cost me only 2800 INR (~$30), but the vibrations are terrible. You can get one from a reputed brand for about 50 USD. I think Razor and Gamesir also sell these.

The only Android game I play with this is Fall Guys, that too once a week or so. But primarily I play PSP and PS2 games. Apps like Retroarch provide a really nice UI for retro games, and can make you feel like you're using a handheld console. Here's a screenshot of Retroarch:

NetherSX2 is also great. Here's the screnshot:

I love this thing and would recommend such gamepads to anyone looking for a handheld console experience.

Here's a few more photos of this.

Btw, it can also be connected to any PC with a Bluetooth connection. This one can also connect to PlayStation 4 as well. It will work on PS5 too, but only in UI and PS4 games.

PS - Sorry for the blurry pictures. i don't have a good secondary camera.

Edit - I wanted to add a bit about Retroachievements as well. If you're into retro gaming, and don't use Retroachievements, WHY? Maybe because you didn't know about it? Go to retroachievements.com and see if you can get all the achievements from your favourite childhood game. You can connect Retroachievements via only Retroarch, NetherSX2 and PPSSPP emulators only. Others are not supported yet (on Android).

I have been considering livestreaming gaming (mostly Retroachievements, and maybe some noncompetitive speed running), but I cannot find/decide a good service. I am not considering it as a source of income, or wanting a huge number of viewers.

Twitch and YouTube are the most popular options. But I don't want to use them at all, just because I don't want to give any more of my or the viewers data to Amazon and Google.

The next popular options are Kick and Rumble, but both of their home pages are filled with right-wing political content. So, I am not swaying towards them either.

I looked at Trovo, and it is looking good. It has a very small user base, however. And as per my research, most of the users there, are streamers themselves, very low amount of viewing only users. So, what do you think of Trovo? (Edit - Trovo has a Russian speaking majority.)

I couldn't find much about D-Live. How's that?

The last option I could find was PeerTube. I don't expect or want a large number of viewers, but I do prefer some discoverability.

I will be converting the live stream content to small videos and will be posting on PeerTube, and maybe even Odysee.

So, what are my options? Any one of the above, or something else?

I need some suggestions on what to play. Single Player games only. Most of the games make me feel lonely and alone. In most of the games, the protagonist has to deal with the problems on their own, like Control, Crysis, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War (I liked the original 6 more than the new ones, even though the new ones had companions), horror games like Outlast, Echo and Alan Wake, and many others.

I want something that won't give me anxiety. I really enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy, having those teammates by my side always made me feel "safe". I also liked Spider-Man and Deadpool because the humour makes me feel comfortable. In old Harry Potter games, Ron, Hermione and Harry were usually together, so, I never felt alone while playing those either. In Indika, that one hand man was with me for most of the game.

Open world games also give me less anxiety, like most Assassin's Creed games, Ghost of Tsushima, Just Cause series, etc.

I think you all get my point. So, what do you suggest I should play?

I bought an Optiplex 5040, with an i5-6500TE, and 8 GB DDR3L RAM.

When I bought it, I installed Fedora Server on it. It got stuck every few days but I could never see the error. The services just stopped working, I couldn't ssh into it, and connecting it to a monitor showed a black screen.

So, I thought let's install Ubuntu Server, maybe Fedora isn't compatible with all of its hardware. The same thing is happening, now, but I can see this error. Even when there's nothing installed on it, no containers, nothing other than base packages, this happens.

I have updated the bios. I have tried setting nouveau.modeset=0 in the grub config file. I have tried disabling and enabling c-states. No luck till now.

Would really appreciate if anyone helps me with this.

UPDATE:

  • I cleaned everything and reapplied the thermal paste. I did not see any change in the thermals. It never goes over 55°C even under full load.
  • I reset the motherboard by removing that jumper thing.
  • I ran memtest86, which took over 2½ hours. It did not show any errors.
  • I ran a CPU stress test for over 15 hours, and nothing crashed.
  • I also ran the Dell's diagnostic tool, available in the boot menu of the motherboard. The whole test took over 2 hours but did not show any errors. It tested the memory, CPU, fans, storage drives, etc.

My current setup is an old MacBook woth 2 external HDDs, and I am almost happy with it, for now. I just saw this mini PC on Amazon and I am considering buying it, just to try out a new thing. I think it is cheap (~22 USD).

What I am worried about is that this much memory and storage might make it almost unusable. I was thinking of hosting some minor services, like remark42, shynet or vaultwarden. What else do you think I can host? If my mind changes, I will also try it with a desktop environment and try to connect it to my 4K Android TV.
