To my fellow Linux users: it's okay to use a GUI. Really.

As a contrbuting member of Society of Linux Users on Terminals I am aghast, AGHAST at the very proposition of using *shudder* graphics on your Linux system. I mean, the very idea! If you can't browse the web in console mode, then why even bother using Linux? GUIs are for quitters.

Somebody is obviously trying to cover all the bases. That's just good thinking. If ghost are real, they get zapped. If they aren't real, they get to chase a group of adolescents all over the place for about 20 minutes before said adolescents figure out it's not a ghost for the umpteenth time.

I don't know, we'll just have to see. But personally, I am not a fan of tying so many functionalities to systemd.

You leave my unhealthy obsessions out of this!

It's not gonna be easy. It's gonna be really hard, and we're gonna have to work at this every day. But I wanna do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever. You and me. Every day. You piece of shit.

I often use UT, Q3 and CS 1.6 as examples of how long a game can stay active when players are given tools to setup their own servers, as opposed to companies handling multiplayer themselves (and often killing it off in a few years).

Seconding the Blackwell series, with a caveat. The earlier games can be a little rough around the edges, resulting in a few Guide Dang It! moments. Walkthroughs are your friends.

Yeah, single player games are nowhere near dead. If they ever did go the way of the dodo, I would probably stop playing altogether, because for the most part I just don't like multiplayer games.

Dunce here, I don't get the joke. Can somebody explain? Are ceiling lights something ND people don't like?

I like how the OP's name was censored for their privacy, but not the name of the person responding. Also, what the hell are these people huffing?

I'm not sure which distro would work with your laptop. I would suggest experimenting with live USB images. Maybe using something like Ventoy which enables you to try out multiple live images from one USB stick. But as far as applications go:

  • GIMP is native to Linux and should work fine. You might also want to give Krita and Inkscape a whirl. Also, massive props for ditching Adobe. I hate that company as much as it hates their customers.
  • Blender works on linux.
  • So does Davinci. Allegedly. Haven't used it, but their website says Linux support is available.
  • I don't code so, um, no idea. Sorry. Hopefully someone else will weigh in.
  • Good news, Linux has working file explorers!
  • No ads, at least for the most part. Ubuntu had Amazon's search integrated into their search bar a while back, which caused quite a kerfuffle. Later, they added a toggle to turn this off, but this was years ago. Might want to check just in case.
