I want to like Plasma, really I do, but even when I haven't chosen it as a DE it overheats my laptop because Baloo File Extractor just won't fucking quit consuming a CPU core for what seems like hours a day.

I get it; pre-emptive aggressive indexing of files now to save CPU cycles in the future. But I have a lot of files and that future never comes for me.

For me it opened my eyes to the idea that all you really need is some CPU time and a little RAM space to have a full-fledged performative system. Sure, there will be a large attack vector for remote spying, but if you just want to code and play games then it's pretty amazing how little you need :-)

examples he gives are what you'd expect:

  • Linux doesnt control the bootloader
  • Linux doesn't control power management

Many systems on the chip that Linux doesn't have control over, and could be compromised by a cross SoC attack

There exists a chart showing how little the Linux kernel directly controls

I'd be greatly interested in seeing this chart

That exposed brick is either going to give him inhalation problems from the dust and grit, or if he added a PVA layer, then the walls will begin to run in a hot summer

I think religion might have something to do with it, but I think its mostly parents (who were often too young to parent compared to now) taking out their frustrations on their kids because they had no other socially-acceptable recreational outlet to just hang loose after work other than drinking and TV.

Photons would still exist, they'd just be frozen in a cloud. You could "see" things by moving towards photon sources, but you'd leave a black fog behind you, and would never be able to see the samething twice.

"yoo shaw boss? maybe I can jus wackem with my-"

"No. Just scare them, and don't buy any Halloween masks. Make a custom one. I know you went to art school. I really want to see some effort here."

I love my dad, but he has an old fashioned definition of male affection and he's at unease when a topic of conversation is brought up that he's not an authority in.

I wish I'd learned that yes, hugging people you know is fine, and that there's nothing wrong in being ignorant in a topic if you're willing to listen and learn from others.

I hear what you're saying but I try my best to divorce a piece of art from its art fans and curators, because ultimately I don't want to be sold into a doctrine on how I should see something, I just want to enjoy it.

I do agree that Arch is much bigger than its codebase (I just sometimes wish it wasn't, with the sole exception of the Arch Wiki)

"embracing your Britishness abroad" is just a euphemism for feeling homesick to the point of delirium
