I tend to watch YouTube on my phone while traveling, waiting, relaxing and don’t feel like turning on the TV… but always in landscape orientation. I can’t stand vertical videos.
Honestly, we (a large Fortune 500 company hosting sites serving between 250m and 500m unique monthly visitors) have standardized on Ubuntu LTS and Rocky Linux. Both have been rock solid. Kubernetes and other things that need regular updates and patches (aka things that directly power forward facing apis/sites) tend to be Ubuntu and the rest Rocky. We do NOT however run any ui’s or browsers or the like on them. I highly recommend against doing so on any server.
If you mean desktop, we tend to not use Linux for desktop apps, instead going with MacOS and Windows with group policies and forced updates. Definitely prefer the stability of MacOS over Windows, but both have their place in the enterprise. When I was running a Linux desktop there, it was Fedora Silverblue. Snaps are not my friend.
Has anyone made a tier list of distro tier lists yet?
DNS based ad blockers (I run one, it’s great, highly recommend) can’t block something if the address is both legit and also serves ads. For instance, if MS used the same domain name for updates and windows key validation as it does for ads, you’d quickly run into an issue. Especially if (please don’t read this MS), they required validation on every boot, then replied with a payload combination of a the ads and a “yea you’re legit and can boot”.

The microphone definitely sounds better in the wireless earbuds. Especially with the amount of background noise it picks up if you’re not using it like a phone. (These are all video calls, so I can’t hold it to my face the same way) The wires one isn’t bad though, I used one for a while (wanted to make sure they fit and were comfortable… and then waited for a sale), but traveling back and forth from the office didn’t agree with them over the long term. That’s one benefit with the wireless ones, the case is pretty protective and durable so it makes for good travel usage.
Sure, I’ve got a few pairs of circumaural cans that are 20+ years old, but they’re wired. There’s no way I’d assume a super tiny rechargeable battery is going to last that long. Or anything made as microscopic as in ear pods (even wired ones I’ve had don’t last more than 3-5yrs imho).
I’ve got 4yrs on mine, I use them for meetings at work and regularly do 3hr meetings with them, probably averaging about 3 hrs a day, 5 days a week. They ran out for me the other day after a 3.5hr meeting, but luckily just one did, so I had it charge while I was using the other and made it through the 5hr outage call.
Not ideal, but the 4 other head sets (2 bt and two wired I got from the company) sounded terrible (either the microphone or the speaker or both) so they’re my go to pair.
I do wish you could swap the battery, but if I make It to 5 yrs it’d probably be fine considering how much I use them. I’d even be okay if they’d just make that a pro feature. At least give us the choice.
Correct. Most corporate software I deal with separates the two. They may throw a free year in of premium support or something in on initial purchase, but making them separate allows them to offer varying levels for customers to choose from. I.e. no support, email only, 48hr SLA, 12hr SLA and 1hr SLA. As different tiers and prices on yearly contracts or even per instance in some cases.

That’s not really saying much if that’s all their shooting for. My last two desktops lasted 12+ years and just turned into severs afterwards. My 2013 MBP just got replaced as my daily driver last year and still works as a backup in a pinch. I use a Toshiba Haswell Intel laptop from 2013 as a dev kubernetes cluster. Unless you’re doing something wrong or need to be cutting edge, you should easily get 10yrs out of it. I want to know if I can get 20-30 out of this framework laptop, in theory I’d be possible with replacement parts and such. If framework is in business that long at last.
