May 1st 2024 was a decade ago? (The article has a list and only two are old as you mention, though not quite a decade yet)

Because of decisions that Blizzard under Kotick made, both in terms of products but also how they treated their customers, employees, and fans, I haven't given them a cent of my money nor playtime. Maybe someday I'll be convinced to come back to them. Bethesda's basically there as well for Fallout76 leading up to its release and after. Take2 and Gearbox as well.

If you've never used Eclipse, which I assume it was referencing, it does feel old, clunky, and ugly out-of-the-box (to me at least). I tried to use IntelliJ wherever possible, but a previous company had a project that really didn't like to run from it but would with a very specific setup in Eclipse (I don't recall any details now more than 10 years later).

There is a fair bit of boilerplate and bloat.

I don't remember UI stuff being so bad, but most of what I worked with was old Swing/AWT stuff. I did have to use JavaFX (I think it was?) once and remember something about it being frustrating, but it was for some existing thing I had to modify.

I don't mind Java so much, but it's certainly not my favorite language.

I don't know how one gets a nullPointer when doing a hello world, though. I'm guessing this is embellishment or mashing together something later with their initial printing of hello since I think you'd come up with some other error in that process to getting something to print before nullPointer.

they have colossal overpopulation.

I don't know that that's necessarily true, particularly as the older generations are on their way out. I'm not sure how many people Japan can/should support in a sustainable fashion (thinking here more in environmental terms and maybe a bit in economic terms, but not in terms of the safety nets that are getting really wrecked by what you mentioned).

I will 100% agree that the distribution is rather unsustainable on a number of levels. Not being able to get into free/subsidized childcare with growing shrinkflation and stagnant wages has certainly been an issue, and more people moving to the same places has definitely impacted that poorly.

I don't know if it's changed here, but even as a guy trying to get sterilized without being married nor having kids was work. I found someone to do it and paid out-of-pocket to get it done. I've heard similar stories from women living here.

This guy is known for spouting all kinds of bullshit, apparently. I've lived here for a decade and it's the first I've heard of this level of insanity (though there certainly is no short of misogyny from the fossils and those wont to blame anyone else for their problems).

Everyone I've known here who works in film, anime, manga, etc. work ridiculous hours with shit work-life balance. I'm sure that's not true of everyone, but especially the smaller studios. It is something that needs to be addressed and, to its credit, the government has imposed more penalties on crazy work hours and upped enforcement, but it's hard to catch the people who aren't reporting their actual hours even if there are now penalties on the employees themselves as well for not doing so. There need to be some big, systemic changes in a lot of those areas here because it is also, in part, a culture issue.

identifying anime and video games as core industries in its revised Cool Japan strategy.

I'll be impressed if the 'Cool Japan' program is proven to be more than primarily for domestic consumption to say "look! we're doing something!"

People didn't find what they wanted and/or went back to what was stable and familiar. I still am avoiding using reddit for anything except the subs related to people living in Japan (the community didn't move over; a couple did but there were basically no posts very quickly) and when it shows up in some search result and nothing else has worked.

But don't worry; well make you buy those legacy games in the shop again because fuck you pay me for the 4th time for a game from the 80s/90s. ~ abe Nintendo, probably

I didn't have a car for a few years and the one I had was 2003 (with a slight stint from a similarly-aged car during a couple-month time I had to drive). I now have a car again and I HATE that my heat/air and such are all flat against the panel (not a touch screen, though). I literally can't adjust anything without looking in my current car. Thankfully, I avoid driving it whenever possible.

You may use it only until you are 15. Alternately, you may choose any 15-year window in your life. Choose wisely.

I would stick with my parents. I also have other citizenship and Japan would require giving up all citizenship to become a Japanese citizen. I would complain that it is bullshit as I do today about Japan's current citizenship laws.
