"Bureaucrats in Brussels" are unfairly challenging Apple's closed ecosystem and denying users the "magical, innovative experience" that makes the firm unique, Apple said.

The so-called walled garden that combines Apple's products and software ensures a safe and high quality experience for users, it says, but EU regulators counter that it unfairly shuts out rivals.

I am trying to set up my homelab to boot whenever it is being accessed. I set up wake on LAN for unicast, and it works fine for a while after shutting down the system. It stops working after a few hours of the server being turned off, though.

From what I'm gathering online, the issue is that my router uses an ARP cache. Before that gets flushed, it still works. However, it seems like my router does not allow me to configure a static ARP entry (using a ISP provided router). I already set a static IP for my server in the router, but it still won't work a few hours.

Is there any way to make this work? I just want to allow a friend of mine to boot my server whenever they try to access a service on it.

Critic Reviews

ACG - Jeremy Penter - Buy

"Silent Hill F's changes to the atmosphere, location, and general feel makes it one of my favorite Silent Hill games. However, long time fans may chaff at the adjustments."

Atarita - Furkan Oğur - Turkish - 75 / 100

Silent Hill F is the first new entry in the series in a long time. While it gets some things right, it falls short in others. Even though it doesn’t fully capture the classic Silent Hill feel, it’s still a good game.

CGMagazine - Brendan Frye - 9 / 10

NeoBards Entertainment has taken bold risks with Silent Hill f, and the result is one of the most unsettling, personal and rewarding horror games in years.

COGconnected - Jaz Sagoo - 90 / 100

Dexerto - James Busby - 5 / 5

Silent Hill f is a bold new direction for Konami’s iconic survival horror series. While it may put a heavier emphasis on combat, NeoBards has expertly concocted a nightmarish cocktail oozing with enough stomach-churning monsters, disgustingly beautiful environments, and psychological dread to be just as good, if not better than, Silent Hill 2.

Hinako’s world is suffocating and compelling, and I can’t wait to delve even further into the dark, damp town of Ebisugaoka to uncover more endings. If this is the quality we can expect from Silent Hill going forward, then I have never been more excited to step into its fog-filled future.

Endless Mode - Elijah Gonzalez - 90 / 100

It’s a sequel that understands what makes these games tick, both in the moment-to-moment particulars of being trapped in a fog bank where you can’t see five feet in front of you, and in the deeper specifics of using scares to navigate the fraying psyche of its protagonist.

Enternity.gr - Konstantinos Kalkanis - Greek - 7 / 10

Silent Hill f, although flawed, shows great promise for Konami's future plans for Silent Hill.

Game8 - Allisandra Reyes - 96 / 100

Silent Hill f is a bold step forward for the franchise, blending its trademark psychological horror with inventive gameplay systems that push survival horror into new territory. The story grips you, the visuals unsettle you, and the music seeps into your bones. While forced combat encounters and a few glitches keep it from perfection, its depth, multiple endings, and replay value make it an unforgettable experience.

GameSpot - Jessica Cogswell - 9 / 10

With its brilliant writing, haunting atmosphere, well-designed gameplay, and spectacular visuals, Silent Hill f sets a new benchmark for the Silent Hill series.

Gamepressure - Sebastian Kasparek - 9.5 / 10

After many long years, Silent Hill has received its most exceptional installment, reintroducing the series to the Premier League of horror and regaining its reputation as the pinnacle of virtual terror.

Gamer Guides - Ben Chard - 92 / 100

Silent Hill f lives up to the series’ legacy of offering a fantastic story that gets you thinking about more than what you see. A fun combat system, beautiful visuals, and a fantastic soundtrack only add to what is one of the best games of the year.

IGN India - Rayan Sayyed - 9 / 10

Silent Hill f pushes the series in a bold new direction without losing its soul. The Japanese setting gives the game a fresh identity while still feeling unmistakably like Silent Hill. With a story rich in character and classic gameplay that feels familiar yet refreshed, this is the revival the series has been waiting for, and it sets the stage for Silent Hill to grow in a distinct direction.

IGN Italy - Alessandro Digioia - Italian - 7.5 / 10

Silent Hill f is a compelling yet flawed return for Konami's iconic horror series: narratively strong and visually striking, it immerses players in a haunting psychological nightmare set in the eerie Japanese town of Ebisugaoka. Hinako's touching and unsettling story is the highlight, but the experience is held back by basic combat, limited enemy types, and a design that requires multiple playthroughs to fully understand the plot without enough gameplay variety. Despite interesting ideas and solid presentation, the game loses momentum over time, feeling repetitive and lessening its emotional impact.

IGN Spain - Mario Sánchez - Spanish - 10 / 10

Silent Hill f takes us to 1960s Japan with a dark, symbolic, and psychologically deep story. It combines exploration, clever puzzles, and more complex combat than previous entries, while still retaining the essence of the series.

Loot Level Chill - Chris White - 9 / 10

Silent Hill f is genuinely unnerving, with a strong story and intense combat that earns its place as a worthy entry in the series.

MonsterVine - James Carr - 3.5 / 5

Silent Hill f delivers a compelling and creepy horror experience, with unique enemies and environments that feel smartly focused on telling Hinako's story. The focus on societal expectations of women and the competition forced upon them, even between friends and sisters, gives the horror elements a more pointed focus. It delivers on themes throughout, and while the combat is only just fine, some of the more compelling ideas, like the economy of Silent Hill f create a compelling and spooky experience. Obtuse puzzles and a lack of variety in combat hold Silent Hill f back from reaching the peak of the survival horror genre.

Niche Gamer - Fingal Belmont - 10 / 10

One More Game - Vincent Ternida - 8.5 / 10

Despite its departure from the familiar urban landscapes of previous entries, Silent Hill f stands as a compelling and worthy addition to the franchise’s storied legacy. From its hauntingly atmospheric opening to its emotionally charged and unsettling finale, Hinako’s journey offers a memorable experience that will spark discussion long after the credits roll.

The game is remarkably accessible, catering to both narrative-driven players and those seeking a deeper challenge. Whether you’re here for the story or eager to test your skills with elevated puzzle and combat difficulty, Silent Hill f delivers a layered horror experience that adapts to your playstyle. While some minor issues may arise depending on personal preferences, the overall package offers something for every fan of psychological horror.

Push Square - Liam Croft - 7 / 10

Silent Hill F takes the survival horror series in a new direction, which pays off for the most part. It's quite different, and hardcore fans will have to accept that. Combat is a heavy focus, and the move to Japan means there's a different kind of tone and atmosphere in the air. Technical problems aside, it marks a bold new chapter in the Silent Hill saga. Accept it for what it is, and you'll find one of PS5's most intense experiences.

Restart.run - Len Hafer - 4 / 5

While it may not satisfy those looking for more of a classic survival horror experience, I absolutely loved the heart-wrenching and vibrantly inventive journey that was Silent Hill f. Each finished playthrough beckoned me back into the gloom to start another, even though the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end. Because I still had more questions, and Silent Hill f still had more answers. I'll be thinking about this one for a long time, and it may just become an instant horror classic.

Shacknews - Donovan Erskine - 9 / 10

SteamDeckHQ - Noah Kupetsky - 4 / 5

Silent Hill f does have flaws, but the pros heavily outweigh the cons. The story sucked me in and combat was more fun than I expected. I am being more nit-picky with the issues I’m bringing up, but they ultimately never affected my enjoyment of the game, nor made me think twice about getting back into it for round 2. And a lot of the issues I had were erased as soon as New Game+ started, which was like a weight lifted off my shoulders.

On top of that, it actually runs quite well on the Steam Deck. It’s definitely not perfect and needs compromises to run effectively, but the game is playable on the Deck and can look gorgeous. It may cost a little extra performance in 3-4 scenes, but they include graphical improvements I’d consider necessary to enjoy.

In the end, Silent Hill f is a thrilling game, and if this keeps up, the future of AAA releases from Konami is going to look very bright.

Stevivor - Matt Gosper - 9.5 / 10

Silent Hill f balances threat and reality in a way that kept me playing longer and longer per session.

The Outerhaven Productions - Karl Smart - 4.5 / 5

Silent Hill f does what the developers intended to do: Capture the soul and spirit of the first three Silent Hill games and put it into an unapologetically Japanese package. However, after playing the game, I walked away feeling like this was more like Forbidden Siren or Fatal Frame than a Silent Hill. The removal of the town itself is a big loss, but this game is one hell of a horror game that would have done really well even if it didn't have the Silent Hill brand attached to it.

TheSixthAxis - Nick Petrasiti - 10 / 10

Silent Hill f isn't just a return to form, it's a landmark entry in the series. Konami. NeoBards and Ryukishi07 have knocked it out of the park. For me, this isn't just Game of the Year material, it's an integral piece of Silent Hill history.

Wccftech - Francesco De Meo - 9 / 10

With a gripping and often disturbing story, a setting unlike anything seen before in the franchise, and gameplay that blends new ideas with a familiar framework, Silent Hill f shows that the series is not only back, but stronger than ever. While performance issues and a short runtime do impact the experience, they in no way diminish what is a triumphant return for one of the most important survival horror series ever.

Worth Playing - Chris "Atom" DeAngelus - 8.5 / 10

Silent Hill f is a slow-burn horror game that doesn't put its best foot forward, but once it has its hooks in you, they're not coming out. The compelling and well-crafted story does a fantastic job of drawing you in and keeping you invested, even potentially through multiple playthroughs. The combat mechanics can feel a tad overdone. I think Silent Hill f is the best entirely new entry in the franchise in ages, and while it has its flaws, it shows that there's still plenty of life in Konami's franchise.

XboxEra - Jesse Norris - 9 / 10

SILENT HILL f is a terrifying and terrific title. This harrowing tale of choice and consequence should thrill and properly disgust any fellow survival horror sicko.

I'm looking for a tool to generate a simple personal website (like an online business card) to self host. Preferably a static site generator.

I'm now using Hugo, but it does too much for me and changes too often. (I can't update my current page, because the template is no longer arond)

Today's game is some more Final Fantasy 7 Remake. I went ahead and went through Chapter 5. I'm inching closer too the point i remember stopping on the original PS4 version, soon i think i'll surpass my younger self. I remember the difficulty being really high, but now i'm wondering if there's something younger me missed (it's probably the feature to auto distribute points).

Where this difficulty was especially obvious was the boss fight with the crab mech thing. I remember really struggling with this my first time playing. This time? I wouldn't say it was easy but i got it on the first try. Though, now, i also am a lot got at managing resources, so i'm sure that's helping here. I wish i could go back in time and figure out why though as i am curious where the difficulty came from when i was younger. Maybe it's all a placebo?

During the section where you're walking on the tracks, i'm surprised i didn't have any near misses. I wonder if they scripted it where you can't get hit. I was really kinda tempted to just wait on the track to see if i got hit or not. Call it morbid curiosity.

I've noticed a bit of ghosting in the graphics, i'm not sure if it's an intentional effect as i only notice it in some areas (such as the heavy lit area above) or if it's some sort of upscaling (TAA or FSR irc can cause this sort of effect). It's not too big of a deal for me, i do wish i knew what was causing it though.

Europe’s richest man, the luxury goods magnate Bernard Arnault, has said that a wealth tax that could cost him more than €1bn (£817m) would be deadly for France’s economy.

The French founder of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton said in a statement to the Sunday Times that calls for a 2% wealth tax on all assets “aims to destroy the liberal economy, the only one that works for the good of all”.

The idea of a wealth tax has steadily gained ground in France because of a political crisis, with the government trying to push through unpopular budget cuts. The idea of a 2% wealth tax on fortunes worth more than €100m has been proposed by Gabriel Zucman, an economics professor who has become a household name in France.

This issue is a long time coming. I got a mini pc (Asrock Deskmini h110, i5-6400, 16gb) that I have used for a long time with Kubuntu/Kde Neon, and most of its life, it worked great. Some years ago, it started freezing, especially at Graphic intensive workload, so I thought some hardware issue and converted it into a NAS and it worked absolutely fine as well for a couple of years there too. Recently my wife needed a Windows PC to do some work, and since I had upgraded my NAS, I repurposed the same PC and installed Windows on it, and it worked absolutely fine for her too. Then I decided to check some Graphics intensive workload, like 3d benchmarking stuff, and it didn't freeze once. I was delighted, and thought maybe I didn't investigated the issue the first time, and the PC was fine all along. So I reinstalled Debian 13, and lo behold, the issue came back. I found out while I was using IKEA's 3d kitchen planner. So I replaced distros, and it froze on Ubuntu and CachyOS as well. I tried switching between Wayland and X11, switched browsers, but PC freezes seconds logging into IKEA's kitchen planner (as soon as 3d graphics are loaded). I reinstalled windows, and my wife has been designing a kitchen in IKEA's 3d kitchen planner for over an hour now, and it hasn't frozen once. What's going on? How do I even investigate this?

I have reinstalled Linux and had sudo dmesg -w running, but no logs are captured before it's frozen. I have reproduced the issue multiple times now on Linux, and not once it froze on Windows. I have also done memtests, and tried multiple disks both nvme and sata. Also have tried multiple browsers with apt and flatpaks. I really need Lemmy's collective intelligence to help me here.

Update: Well system stopped hanging with 'nomodeset' as boot parameter, confirming that it's Intel 915 driver. I tried variety of Intel related kernel parameters like psr, dc, guc, even messed with Intel cstate, but it hanged every time Intel 915 driver is even loaded. So ???
