I give haircuts to myself and the shaving device I got recently was like 40-50 EUR and it s expected to last a couple years like the one before it.
My reasons for not going to the proper place is:
Mine looks plain, in the beginning they look even worse then you start getting it. The advice I would give others wanting to try that: dont shave too much so the small imperfections will not be too obvious.
Yeah, I need to keep my hair a bit longer to not look like a worm
So I bought one of those trimmers, you can connect to a vacuum. This sucks in the hair and it gets cut at least reasonable long.
And every place I went, they just did their typical thing that's currently en vogue, didn't matter much, what I was saying. It was always just an adaptation of the current style.
So I gave up paying 30-100€ every few months, because they couldn't get it right anyway.
If I need to look like shit for a few weeks, it should at least be cheap...
Yup, that's what I do. I've been doing it for years and it looks fine. It takes about 20 min to get an acceptable fade, which is less than if I drove to a barber/stylist and back.
