It's not 'livable' in terms of building code. We could allow spaces like this to be used as bedrooms, but that would require doing away with the laws that say you need fire egress in bedrooms.

I know.

I also know what I said.

Its more livable than being homeless.

Now this person has a $75k bail, and a or more of a criminal record, so the cycle will continue.

I agree the record and bail are bullshit, but you cannot seriously be proposing that we relax fire code for rentals.

Sorry to butt-in on this exchange, but I did not see anywhere they proposed such a thing?

I've been homeless and I've gotta say, fire codes are worth the toilet paper they're printed on when it's getting cold out, and you've been through 6 days of constant rain.

Fucking yeah man, any set of walls with semi decent insulation and semi decent roof waaaaaay beats trying to sleep in your only set of clothes or a sleeping bag or a tent... during a fucking heatwave or blizzard or downpour or windstorm or w/e.

Full time camping outside like that is... usually something most people can only conceive of as what EXTREME survivalists who DRINK THEIR OWN PISS .... on TV... do.

Uh, nope, no thats just 24/7/365 life when you're homeless.

Well, minus the piss drinking part, that's not a good idea lol.

Like I legit have diagnosed PTSD from the experience, as well as, you know, aforementioned crippling injuries.

Thankfully I've been housed for a while now and have been working on handling both of those, and have been making good progress on both... but oh holy shit the number of days and nights I nearly died from one thing or another....phew, yeah.

Lots of people I met along the way... they did die, I was almost always the only nearby person with any halfway decent first aid/trauma response/OD response knowledge, did my best to help what I could... often wasn't enough.
