Key Findings

  • In complete secrecy, Iranian authorities bought FindFace, a Russian facial recognition software, in 2019, as confirmed by contracts obtained by Forbidden Stories and its partners.
  • FindFace can identify faces in public spaces in a matter of seconds and run them through databases maintained by the regime's security services.
  • The Iranian security apparatus is attempting to conceal this acquisition with shell companies.
  • Several security agencies are involved, including the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps and the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence.

As they bomb Iran, Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu are calling on its people to rise up against the dictatorial regime, which is shaken but still standing. Iranian authorities have a sophisticated weapon for monitoring the population: a powerful Russian facial recognition software — acquired in complete secrecy. Thanks to a data leak from Russian and Iranian companies, Forbidden Stories and its partners reveal the workings of this mass surveillance system.

Is this supposed to make it okay that we bombed Iran in violation of our own constitution, and took out a school full of little girls in the process?

The school attack/deaths of students has not been confirmed yet (as of last night’s news) by any reliable source.

Edit: see my reply.

What source would you consider reliable?

[–] littleomid@feddit.org 2 points 7 hours ago

There have apparently been more news, the wiki sums it up pretty nicely: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_Minab_school_airstrike

The attack is confirmed, death toll however is not.

Where exactly does it say that?

[–] SarahValentine@lemmy.blahaj.zone -2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Wow, you really do think your target audience is stupid.

Neither did you, and I asked first.

I feel like I am talking to AI bot.

Talk and discuss normally or keep repeating your words like a broken robot. The choice is yours.

My initial comment was a question which, for the third reply in a row, you have refused to answer. I haven't repeated a damn thing and I resent you trying to duck out of answering by asking stupid counter-questions and accusing me of being a bot.
