I care about the sentiment, not the points.
Okay, so you only want to say things that are popular within a community, and you consider people who say things that are unpopular to be "trolls" that should be excluded from that community.
This is what makes social media into self-reinforcing information bubbles and leads people to be out of touch with the general public. Like this Thunderbolt tool - if "nobody asked for this", as another commenter in this thread said, why do you think it was made? There's actually a lot of demand for AI tools in the real world but communities like this one create narratives that convinced themselves that it's all some kind of delusional grift with unclear motives. When someone like me comes along that challenges that narrative, ooh, troll. Downvote and drive out! And you wonder why everyone left seems to agree?
You should really just block me if you don't want to hear my views. I suppose you could report me to the mods if you think I've actually broken any rules, but that normally requires a bit more backing it up than just disagreeing with my opinion or thinking it's unpopular. Otherwise you're just going to waste your time and make yourself unhappy.
Facedeer, if you don't want people to see you as a troll, don't complain about "apocalyptic" rhetoric around AI job loss one day, then say people are in "denial" if they don't believe it the next day.
In other words, don't be a troll.
In other words, "don't have an opinion about AI that's different from mine."
Facedeer, posting two contradictory things is not "having an opinon." It is trolling.
You should try having an opinion, and even sticking to the topic (addressing Mozilla's waste instead of bloviating about some vague virtue of the right to speech ). It would be so much more interesting.
What's contradictory? A lot of people in that thread about AI capabilities were in denial. A lot of other people are making apocalyptic statements.
See that "other people" thing? Different people have different opinions and react differently. That's the point I'm making here, too. Not everyone hates this AI tool that Mozilla has put out.
FaceDeer, don't act dumb. You clearly went into both threads to attack and name-call anybody who doesn't criticize AI under your ill-defined, ever-shifting standards. So your attacks ended up contradictory and hypocritical.
And now you're here to defend Mozilla waste by suggesting there are people who totally wanted it. (Are they in the room with you right now?)
FauxLiving, harmburgler, Avid Amoeba, and CyberSeeker are discussing it in positive terms elsewhere in this very thread. 𝕸𝖔𝖘𝖘 had a more cautiously open view. So yes, they are in the "room" with us right now.
Since you care about upvotes, note that many of my comments here have garnered a decent number of those too.
You ignored the first half of my statement. Noted.
To the second half: show me where they asked Mozilla to spend money on it before Mozilla did. Otherwise you misinterpreted what I wrote.
I ignored the first half of your statement because it was just pointless badmouthing of me.
I'm ignoring the rest of your comment because it's a weird goalpost shift. Why would Mozilla ask a bunch of random people on the Fediverse what they want? You're upset because they didn't personally ask you what to do?
You can't name anyone who asked for this thing that Mozilla is burning money on? Noted.
Don't be so quick to confidently name names, then. Including with the weird "karma" accusation you tried throwing at me.
100%
It's one thing to be against the rampant capitalist orgy around AI that's disrupting markets and driving up energy costs. I agree with that sentiment. I also agree that there are questions around copyright and said capitalists have stolen a lot of work from people.
That being said, it's complete nonsense to take that gripe and then pretend that every possible use of Transformer-based neural networks is evil and useless.
Yes, there are aspects of the creation of commercial Large Language Models and Diffusion Models that are immoral and should be criticized, but if somebody's kneejerk reaction is to hate everything that says 'AI' then they're no different than the anti-vaxxers or election deniers or any other people who let social media do their thinking for them.
People are upset at all of the datacenters being created and also are upset when there are self-hosting tools being created, where's the logic in that? What is the actual position held by you people other than: 'see AI, downvote'?
Ratio doesn't mean right. This is so obvious, that you (@call_me_xale@lemmy.zip) should feel shame that you even made that comment.
I know you wont, though, you must be right because look at the RATIO! That's how you know how right you are, correct? After all, there is no need to actually make any kind of rational argument or attempt to participate in the discussion in any meaningful way, just find the right clapback and watch the ratio.
The same with the conspiratorial personal attack. They don't share your opinion so they're a secret plant by the AI industry? Really? Conspiratorial and paranoid delusions are not a substitute for a rational opinion, no matter what the ratio says or how self-righteous you feel when you press the submit button.
I look forward to your response. If I could make a suggestion, perhaps try insinuating that @FaceDeer@fedia.io and I are the same person on alt accounts, that one always gets good ratio. Maybe a single emoji reply, the effort:ratio ratio on that one is pretty good. I have a pretty considerable comment history, maybe you can find something in there. Though you could also go with not replying, I mean after all this is wayyyy down the comment chain so you may not find the attention that you're seeking.
Put some effort into your snark and show a little originality. Repeating the "L ratio" meme is tired af.
You use an LLM to write this?
FauxLiving, being another AI advocate who's just here to troll and spread snark doesn't make you special.
Nor does pretending you have a special opinion while not only failing to provide it, but instead attacking people who disagree with you. But with flair. Here's a tip: address what's discussed, instead of bloviating about diversity of thought or making baseless accusations towards people who disagree with you.
