Based Mullvad, once again

I really wish I could use them but it never works with my streaming services. I've had to stick to Proton or NordVPN for reliable streaming :(

They literally say that they don't support streaming sites somewhere. Why even try? All those services are actively putting protections against vpns and fighting them as much as they can. A vpn service to support streaming sites needs to be constantly fighting and working on it.

Self-hosted is unfortunately the way to go.

Even proton is super exposed to the web, I hate nord but they're the only one I've ever used where you barely ever get captchas or broken apps

Even on lemmy. Sometimes I can't comment because I'm on proton vpn..

Have you tried all the extra settings they have to bypass blockers? There’s a lot of ways to change things to get it to work.

It's probably been a year or so since I've given Mullvad another try, so maybe it's time I do that soon.

something that works for me is trying different servers until one gets through, i.e. it's not in the site's blocklist. Then I favorite that server and use it whenever I need that particular site

Me too, but I managed to make it work by trying different servers. For example for Japanese Netflix I use jp-osa-wg-004 instead of the default

Are English subs available when you're on a Japan server? I haven't checked it yet but my wife says it isn't available, so we usually go for Singapore or Malaysia.

The other problem is it seems they are implementing some restrictions somehow because a lot of the anime shows we watch have disappeared, whereas another user on the same account who is located in Asia (not necessarily in Singapore and Malaysia) has access to the very same shows.

For Frieren there were Japanese and English subs
