They didn't want to actually secure the pad to the pedal for whatever stupid rwason so it is a slipon that can slip up and catch while accelerating. .

So basically the only way it can fail is the worst possible way.

Criminal negligence. You could not pay me to drive a Tesla. The bicycle that I assembled as a kid from varied junkyard parts was more structurally sound.
