A dedicated more focused app would be better.
Why?
I like the concept of NewPipe combining several content providers.
To me, NewPipe's Peertube would be better with a search function that can select any server as base.
Nothing versus newpipe but PeerTube doesn't need to support proprietary platforms, also a dedicated app would probably be better to implement particular peertube's features.
same here🤗
Same it works well.
I use Tubular which integrates Sponsor Block and comment replies.
... How? My Tubular won't open peertube links, and i have tagged all the extra links it offered in open by default
Idk, all I know is that I don't have NewPipe installed and when someone shared a PeerTube link in Lemmy the other day, Tubular opened it with no problems.
i have tagged all the extra links it offered
Is this in the app settings or the device settings?
Does Tubular support SponsorBlock for PeerTube videos?
I didn't know, so I asked Microsoft Copilot:
Tubular, which is a fork of NewPipe, does implement SponsorBlock1. It also supports ad-free versions of platforms like SoundCloud, Bandcamp, and PeerTube2. This means that you should be able to use SponsorBlock with PeerTube videos through Tubular. However, it’s important to note that there has been a discussion about the lack of PeerTube support in the SponsorBlock repository itself3, which suggests that while Tubular supports PeerTube, there might be some limitations or ongoing development regarding full integration. For the most up-to-date information, you may want to check the latest updates on Tubular’s GitHub page or the SponsorBlock issue tracker13.
I juat wich i could log in with my lemmy account to add comments.
you can't expect it to gain any traction without one.
It won't gain traction until there's content on it people actually want to watch. The best app developer in world could make a Peertube app tomorrow, and it wouldn't mean anything to the 99.999% of people who aren't interested in watching 2-hour seminars about Linux kernel.
That too.
It kind of goes both ways too, doesn't it? Like, the consumers aren't going to flock to the alternative platform without good content creators already there, and the content creators usually want to stay on whatever platform will get them the most views.
Fuck google.
It has to exist, it's crucial... People won't come to your platform if theres no mobile app...
Framasoft is already working on a peertube mobile app!
That's really cool to see!
There needs to be one for iOS too.
I have a feeling it's insanely hard to approve an app like that in the iOS App Store.
But maybe someone proves me wrong...
Is Apple not going to allow sideloading in the EU soon?
The apps still have to be approved by Apple, and Apple still gets a cut. It's not actual sideloading, and it's all done through Apple-approved third party app stores.
You can't just download an IPA file and install it.
I never found a winner when I looked into it years ago.
I think OP may have a similar sentiment -- what do you guys think? Which ones are #1 ?
Fedilab already works as a PeerTube app. A good one!
Me me me me me me me me me me me me
