What the fuck

What game is this

For, uh, research

[–] Daefsdeda@sh.itjust.works 59 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Middle earth dhadow of war if I am not mistaken

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 44 points 4 months ago (2 children)

for the next 11h it's still on -95% sale on steam too!

[–] Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world 38 points 4 months ago (1 children)

As far as actual lotr story, not good. As far as gameplay though, for 95% off there's MUCH worse games you could play. I easily put over 100 hours into this and it's dlc

[–] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 38 points 4 months ago (3 children)

Shadow of mordor's story is also just passable, but the nemesis system of both game is really something else. It's a shame the system is trademarked.

[–] billybong@lemmynsfw.com 13 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Patented. And the patent should run out fairly soon iirc.

[–] daltotron@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

I don't think it would be enforceable, either. At least, not in the way people are thinking. Take a gander at that article, sort of goes over the details of it and sheds some light on the industry on a larger scale.

2036 if they don't extend it. It was granted in 2021.

[–] billybong@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Oh wow, patent was only granted 7 years after the game was released so the game will be 22 years old when the patent expires if not extended. Patent law is bonkers.

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 2 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

It's because many of the iterations of the patent they tried to file were too similar to prior art in other games. Plus I'd hope 22 years is plenty of time to make a profit off of an idea you have lmao. Better that than 70 years after the crator's death like copyright.

[–] Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago (2 children)

And they don't seem to want to implement that system in anything else

[–] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It's the kind of thing that fit so well within this franchise because any uruk can be somebody and nobody at the same time, it won't work well with most of WB other franchise. The only other game that could utilise this system well is Mad Max, so maybe there might be a chance?

[–] turmacar@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Well now I'm retroactively annoyed they didn't use it in the Mad Max game a few years ago. It was still really fun but that would've been a great addition.

[–] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 1 points 4 months ago

Maybe there's a MadMax game in the making, the franchise is quite hot lately

[–] Renacles@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

It got patented, nobody can use it anymore.

[–] bionicjoey@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I believe you mean patented.

[–] Renacles@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Thanks, fixed it.

[–] pelerinli@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Even on hard nemesis is something you can really avoid by picking who to fight with, and even by then it is not that difficult in Shadow of Mordor. They can surely sell the idea but the implementation in my opinion.

[–] Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

Look at mister "I never died to a random 7 uruk gangbang"

[–] Pencilnoob@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Ok, sold, now my partner has a new gift of their favorite movies

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 1 points 4 months ago

Shadow of War is really good.

[–] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Oh holy shit really?

[–] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 47 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I'm seeing milla jovovich.

[–] pleb_maximus@feddit.de 51 points 4 months ago (2 children)

What does her husband think about that?

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 19 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Too busy making seven new Resident Evil movies to notice

Totally not searching the web for Stoya

[–] bionicjoey@lemmy.ca 22 points 4 months ago (1 children)

She was pretty famous like a decade ago. IDK if she still does stuff anymore.

[–] BarbecueCowboy@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago (2 children)

She mostly successfully pivoted to legit work.

She had a few non-adult movies and she's a columnist with Slate now.

[–] Liz@midwest.social 14 points 4 months ago

Porn is legit work. I invite you to try and earn a living doing it. Even if you actually succeed at pulling in with money, you're gonna realize it's basically like any other entertainment business.

[–] WanderingVentra@lemm.ee 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Was she the one nearly killed by that UFC fighter ex-boyfriend?

[–] Gaspar@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 4 months ago (1 children)

No, that was Christy Mack. Stoya was the one who got into an on-and-off-camera relationship with James Deen and then alleged that he was a pretty skeezy dude. I think she may also have popularized the whole "porn star is a regular on Reddit" thing but I may be mistaken.

[–] MalReynolds@slrpnk.net 3 points 4 months ago

And there's a part of the web I'm not glad I missed...

[–] Toneswirly@lemmy.world 20 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Sexy Shelob was definitely a misstep...

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

These two games are both really good though. Infuriating that the nemesis system got patented.

[–] PraiseTheSoup@lemm.ee 8 points 4 months ago (3 children)

I think the games were both really bad, both in lore, environment, and boring ass combat. And also Ubisoft has something almost exactly like the "nemesis system" that they used in AC Odyssey, so it's not that special. Not special enough to make the Shadow of games playable anyway.

[–] androogee@midwest.social 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I did a big catch-up on games I'd missed a few years ago when I got a PS4. Nabbed Shadow on sale and was super excited to finally try this amazing game that everyone raved about.

Pretty much immediately realized that it was another mf'ing Batman Arkham combat clone, haven't touched it since. A plague on modern gaming.

[–] johannesvanderwhales@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Personally I agree but a lot of people seemed to enjoy them.

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 0 points 4 months ago

I tried playing AC Odyssey but it just felt weirdly cluttered like I was being bombarded with a bunch of useless information the whole time. Refunded within two hours.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I bet she's good at pegging.
