Take the fucking ad down then, ya fuckin bellend

[–] nxdefiant@startrek.website 14 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That's exactly how I read this. Grey text was laying on the fuck you for leaving up the ad.

[–] AeroLemming@lemm.ee 3 points 11 months ago

I mean, offering higher prices seems like a weird way to do that.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 38 points 11 months ago (3 children)

I don't understand how people this stupid survive.

[–] xkforce@lemmy.world 22 points 11 months ago

Warning labels and adult supervision

[–] BruceTwarzen@kbin.social 13 points 11 months ago (1 children)

People stupid enough to think these text messages are real? No idea.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

I've had conversations like this from Craigslist posts, so yeah, I think there's a good chance they're real.

[–] omgarm@feddit.nl 10 points 11 months ago (1 children)

As long as you don't do destructive drugs or commit a crime or two it's easy to get by.

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

So if I'm not a bumbling moron, I can do crimes and drugs? Fuck yeah let's gooooooooo

[–] Fosheze@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago

So if I'm not a bumbling moron

See, that part is the problem though.

[–] Pratai@lemmy.ca 24 points 11 months ago (3 children)

We’re all pretending this is real, right?

[–] RealFknNito@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Yes and to confirm my preconceived notions the gray text is an out of touch boomer trying to haggle like the days of old and the blue text is anybody else. Thus, I will updoot and continue on without another passing thought as I read the caption of the next post below it.

Do they even still make 30" TVs?

[–] Bwaz@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

That would sell used for $250? This has to be an old post, I couldn't get $50 for a 12 yr old 43" in mint condition.

Small tvs are usually targeted for dorm rooms. Basically glorified monitors with built in speakers and a cabke tuner.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Just get a monitor, at least it isn't going to be data harvesting your viewing.

Well, unless you use Windows...

[–] DebatableRaccoon@lemmy.ca 17 points 11 months ago (1 children)

If it wasn't for those bidding attempts I'd want to call the seller the idiot for leaving the listing up. Instead they're just dumb and dumber

[–] bingbong@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 11 months ago

$300, final offer 😡

[–] morphballganon@lemmy.world 17 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I once had a buyer accuse me of being a scammer simply because I had already sold an item. Different platform, same idiocy.

[–] madcaesar@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

Calssic seller scammer trick is selling items.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 9 points 11 months ago

I think this is the opposite extreme of a choosing beggar, someone willing to pay top dollar for something you don't even have

[–] thedirtyknapkin@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago (2 children)

y'all aren't very good at trying to think through another's eyes.

this was probably someone who buys and sells on marketplace all day and sends hundreds of messages per day. that likely didn't reference the earlier conversation and just replied after looking at the initial price on auto pilot.

it's not that they're actually this dumb, they're probably just not paying attention and replying quickly while out doing whatever else. and they probably have like 40 of these conversations going at any given moment. it's not stupidity, it's.... idk just a lack of care?

[–] xantoxis@lemmy.world 14 points 11 months ago

I agree that this explains it, but there are plenty of character flaws we can level at this person:

  • rude as fuck. "don't waste my time" is no way to respond to that message, even if it's the only message you are keeping in short-term memory
  • scammy. this person's posing as an individual buyer, negotiating in bad faith as if this isn't their primary business. is that even allowed by the marketplace rules? pretending they can't afford to pay the asking price for the TV when in fact they're trying to skim profits off of you.
  • a bad negotiator. why the limit raise in the middle of the conversation when no price was mentioned at all? even if you're only thinking about one message at a time, this person threw 50 free bucks at the seller.
[–] Kiosade@lemmy.ca 9 points 11 months ago

I would argue a lack of caring or attention to detail IS a form of idiocy. I mean the guy certainly looks dumb in the end no matter how you slice it!

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

People like this are why I take my old stuff down the tip rather than waste time with fuckwits.

[–] HootinNHollerin@sh.itjust.works 3 points 11 months ago

I got threatened by a guy I was giving a bike to for free. I’m done dealing with randos buying or selling
