For those who might not get it, every laptop that I’ve had has had two usb 3 ports on the right side, with other I/O like HDMI or headphone jack, and then one USB 2 port on the left side with less io, just the power jack.

The USB 2 is for a mouse or keyboard as extra bandwidth does nothing.

I can’t relate tho. My laptop only has two USB4 with type-C connectors. I really wish it tad at least one type-A connection. Luckily unlike my last laptop, at least this one has a headphone jack (I guess ASUS learned from their folly & never skipped the jack on future models).

Yea with the amount of USB-A stuff still in circulation everyone dropping it early was so fuckin’ weak. That’ll shit’ll still be useful a decade from now.

I find myself not often using my open hardware USB security token since it is inconvenient to use a dongle (same reason phones should never have dropped headphone jacks)

I ended up buying one that flips around and can do A and C connections

My laptop (actually designed and used as mobile device with a 13 inch screen) has one USB-C port which is meant for charging or for attaching a docking station. And I am absolutely happy with it.

My laptop had 2 USB4 with type C connectors, a USB 3.2 type A connector and a USB 3.2 type C connector, but recently it's had an HDMI connector instead of the 3.2 type C.

the barrel charger is in pristine condition since its never been used and it's right next to that usb 2 slot; the left side is a slut while the right side is a virgin. lol

Hey don't slutshame, let's keep this a hotplug-positive community

Not shaming at all and calling attention to the thier needs; right sides need some loving too. Lol

I just like keeping stuff plugged into one side so that I can rest the edge of the other side against my leg without having to worry about bending devices

Okay, Dell shaming time.

On my Inspiron, there are three USB ports. Two on the right side along with the SD card slot, and one on the left side along with the charger port and the HDMI port.

One of these is a USB2.0, the others are USB 3.0. All type As, this laptop predates USB-C by about 2 weeks. The one that is 2.0 is one of the two on the right side. Dell put no markings on the chassis to distinguish them, and colored all the tongues black, no blue tongues. So if you forgot which is which you had to look down into the port for the one that only has four conductors back there.

I swear, Congress designed this fucking laptop.

Did work out reasonably well in "desktop mode." There's a cubby in my desk I could put it, and power, video and a USB hub for ethernet and peripherals was on the side that stuck into the desk, and the SD card slot and a couple more ports stuck out of the desk for use. But oh man a lot of the details on this laptop were designed like a government website.

My Dell latitude has pretty much the same situation.

own a framework, can't relate

I don't really mind. The only high bandwidth thing I use on my work laptop is the USB-C for my displays. If I ever plug something into the rest of the ports, it would be a mouse/keyboard/headset and none of those require anything more than USB 2.0.
