This will not move the needle. Conservatives don't give a teeny tiny fuck about animals. They kill animals for entertainment and brag about how heartless they are in the process.

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago

They absolutely care about the enslavement of innocent woodland creatures for human entertainment and monetary profit. These people complain there are no elephants at the circus being beat anymore.

Now hold on. The MAGA-types may hold nothing holy, but the older conservatives did give something of a shit about animals. Nixon did give us the EPA, after all.

[–] Burn_The_Right@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Nixon did not create the EPA out of benevolence. The normal (non-conservative and progressive) reps had been pushing for it for years and were gaining public opinion momentum on it. Nixon knew if he was able to create it on his own terms, it could be controlled and hamstrung. He did exactly that.

Nixon allowed conservatives and the business-class (both of whom hated the EPA) to determine how the EPA would be limited. And every conservative administration since Nixon has done the same thing, using the EPA as a tool to allow corporations to do exactly as they please while telling the public that the environment is being protected.

Every word uttered by a conservative is deception or manipulation, and the EPA is an excellent example of that truism in action.

More sympathy for squirrels than human beings

Nailed it right there. They care more about this one squirrel than the women who die from pregnancies gone wrong because doctors can't treat them without opening themselves up to legal problems, the Haitians and Puerto Ricans who find themselves threatened and ostracized because of Trump and Vance's words, etc.

The animal that was killed by the police state using excessive force? Is Trump pro defunding the police now?

[–] MiDaBa@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 weeks ago

I made this exact argument. All of the sudden they're against excessive police raids. Maybe they'll agree that if police are using this much manpower for squirrels they may be over funded and a correction could be in order. One could argue for some sort of defunding to get police priorities back in order.

Maybe get some of those permits for your animals before you get them killed through negligence. Dont play chicken with the State. Dont vote for Donald Trump.

[–] jimbolauski@lemm.ee 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Killing an animal because their owner didn't have their papers is ridiculas. The animal shouldn't be punished because the owner was a dumbass.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

They didn't kill him because he didn't have a permit. They killed him because they couldn't verify the squirrel's health, due to the owner forgoing vet treatment and documentation, because he didn't have a permit for the squirrel

[–] BonerMan@ani.social 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Bro what the fuck?

Nobody is actually voting trump because of this and NY did fuck up so heavily here its beyond reality.

You defend people killing animals just because _.

The reason the animals where apparently killed is stupid as hell and the people that did it need to be burned like witches for this. "Cameras went out" wow.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He had multiple warnings to get his permits. Everyone knows you keep the feds and police away from your animals if you care about them, by getting the proper permits for exotic or wild animals. I'm not saying it was right to shoot a squirrel. But what's not right is ignoring everything and then whining after you got your own house raided and animals killed.

[–] distantsounds@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That’s a pretty fucked up take on the situation

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Nearly as fucked up as making viral videos with an animal and never bothering to make sure its legal before you exploit it.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Dude used the squirrel to make viral videos, now that his money stream is gone because he never bothered to get permits for the poor squirrel he's blaming the state of New York. The raid wouldnt have happened if he got permits and if some other Rubepublican in Texas wasn't screeching about him not having it. This is one massive Ruth Goldberg footgun and the only victim here are the rescue animals he kept as pets.

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

not to mention the squirrel got injured to the point it's bone was sticking out of its tail and the guy didn't take it to the vet because they wouldn't let him keep it as a pet.

[–] otp@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 weeks ago

When everyone else leaves out essential details...

They knew it they needed a license, they knew it needed care, but they didn't take care of it or make any effort to make it legal because...they didn't want to lose their upload momentum?

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm still here for this comment, but it's Rube Goldberg.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Dammit, I am now the rube.

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Squirrels and raccoons are wildlife.

Keeping wildlife as pets is generally not legal.

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 2 weeks ago

In 14 states it's totally legal. Also, not a single case of rabies in the US has ever come from a squirrel. They can be a pet as much as a rat can be a pet and those are allowed in pretty much any state.

[–] jimbolauski@lemm.ee -2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Squirrels are just bushy tailed tree rats, rats are not prohibited or require permits in any state. The law is idiotic and killing an animal because the owner didn't have papers is idiotic and spiteful.

[–] ImADifferentBird@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The animal wasn't killed because the owner didn't have papers. The animal was killed because it was on video several times biting it's owner, and you cannot test for rabies without killing the animal and examining its brain.

[–] Saik0Shinigami@lemmy.saik0.com -1 points 2 weeks ago

Rabies kills animals in about 10 days. We have years of videos... It didn't have rabies. Since lived indoors you can also reasonably prove that it couldn't get rabies either.

[–] NutWrench@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 weeks ago

That's the Fark squirrel. And we all know what it's doing to Donald.
