Man I so hope microcenter or fries or such takes this to heart and makes laptops and desktops with something like applecare and the genius bar.

Ironic as covid caused a huge surge of tech purchases

Well, that and the embezzlement.

Me too! Maybe the Steam name is just the boost the Linux market share needs. But wait, I thought Fry's went out of business. Do they still exist, and the two near me just imploded?

Regardless, MicroCenter is way better, and also closer than either Fry's was to me 😎

There was only like one frys in my area so I had not known they disapeared completely.

This is awesome, hopefully this means we might get new living room Steam Machines in the future. That would be very cool. I know you can build your own by getting a cheap AMD mini PC and installing unofficial Steam OS on it but it would be nice to have the real deal with an official Steam OS version.

I would like to know more about these cheap AMD mini PCs please.

Ok so they're relatively cheap at around 500-600 dollars, which isn't really cheap but compared to most Gaming PCs out there absolutely is.

You can find them on Amazon, last I checked they were being sold under the BeeLink brand.

Thank you! They're actually a similar price here in Aus, which I am not used to.

Mini PC/PC with a script to run gamescope -fe -- steam on boot is as close as you'll get atm. That will run Steam in fullscreen embedded mode.

I have a PC all set up for it but there is a bug with 10xx series NVIDIA cards that causes the screen to go black when the cursor is hidden. Very upsetting. Need to throw an AMD card in there.

That's why I say they should be AMD mini PCs, since Nvidia has issues with Steam Gamescope and big picture. Also the mini PCs with an integrated AMD APU are far more compact, more ideal for a Living room setup that'll have to fit in an entertainment center, or even behind the TV in the case of Wall mounted setups.

I hope this goes better than last time.

Last time they were trying to get devs to make games for Linux.

Now the steamdeck can play just about anything. The only exceptions are anti-cheat stuff and a random thing here and there. But that is really rare.

So, I guess what I’m trying to say is that it can’t be worse than last time.

id doubt it will be nearly as bad unless they try to screw it up on purpose

it was already a far better experience even before the steamdeck released.

the only thing that im currently missing is support for mods (i.e. nexus mod launcher) and id doubt the target audience of a "steam console" would be bothered that
