Red flag to move off WordPress onto something not beholden to an egomaniacal asshole.

Just self-host it. Its open source. Your instance doesn't have to have a pineapple on pizza pledge.

I for one am tired of division. We must unite under one crust. Held together by our love of sauce, cheese, and toppings on bread. Brothers and sisters, sharing a slice in unity. Not divided over what specific toppings may reside or the contents of the sauce. I SAY NAY. pizza is made to share, and together we may all enjoy a bite.

Unless it's from Brazil holy shit what the fuck are they even doing down there?

Have you tried Japanese "pizza"? There are larger wars to be fought than pineapple.

I pledge allegiance to the yellow sweetness!

pledge loyalty to pineapple pizza

Truly a sign of absolute madness.

Absolute madness is the best kind of madness!

Very strange to see.

Which one is that, I get confused because I use neither and the technicalities scare me: the one owned by known fucking weirdo (and CEO!) photomatt or the other, underdog one?

If the former: that's some bullshit, goddammit.

If the latter: haha, so quirky!

I also thought until just now that the other headline I saw about this actually was an onion.

That "underdog" you're talking about is owned by the 11th largest private equity firm in the world, and they really don't contribute much to the free software project Matt runs which their entire business is built on.

Matt is certainly screwing up with his handling of the dispute, and it's sad to see because i think his commitment to free software ideals has generally been a benefit to society over the last two decades.

From where I'm sitting (i've spent at least a couple hours reading about the dispute over the last few months) he's actually not wrong about the trademark thing. And he's also not wrong about pineapple on pizza 😂 ... but putting either on the login page is not a good look. 😢

I know Matt primarily from tumblr and the absolute bullshit he's pulling over there so I'm biased. Thank you for that clarification :)

I think WP Engine has a meritful claim of extortion, with Matt giving them a two-day ultimatum out of the blue that demanded them agree to hand over 8% of revenue. I also think Matt is wrong about the trademark thing and that WP Engine's use should fall under nominative fair use. However, I agree that "underdog" is quite the mischaracterization; despite WordPress.com's extreme and widespread usage, they're probably close to 2nd-most used.

Is it still like that? This happened a couple days ago
