Speculation of Tesla CEO’s possible departure comes as his influence in the administration appears to wane

Elon Musk is reportedly set to leave his government role because he’s tired of the what he sees as a litany of vicious and unethical attacks from the left, according to a report from The Washington Post.

It remains unclear when Musk will depart as head of DOGE; his special government employee status will expire at the end of next month. A person familiar with his thinking told The Post that Musk thinks that his work at DOGE won’t be diminished because of his departure, noting that staffers have already established themselves across a slew of federal agencies.

But speculation of Musk’s possible departure comes as his influence in the administration appears to wane. The New York Times reported last week that the acting commissioner of the IRS was being replaced after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent complained that Musk had his preferred candidate installed without Bessent’s support. Musk has also annoyed other cabinet members by failing to coordinate with them in cost-cutting moves.

Elon is a weird duck with delusions of grandeur who can't understand the left's disgust. It was the nazi salute, Elon. It'll always be the nazi salute. All your other dank shit runs secondary to that.

[–] ImADifferentBird@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I wouldn't put it down solely to the Nazi salute, because most of us knew he was the kind of guy who would do a Nazi salute long before he actually did it.

He's been absolute human garbage for a very long time, and now it's catching up to him.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I don't know that most is accurate. He had the general public fooled into thinking he was a real life Tony Stark.

For a while, yeah. But the wheels have been falling off that characterization for at least six years at this point (ever since the "pedo guy" incident). And by the time he bought Twitter and went full mask off, anybody who was paying attention knew what he was.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 6 points 11 hours ago

That dank shit is the same thing.

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 77 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

My take: He's been told to pack his shit and doesn't wanna admit it. He knows full well "the Left" isn't gonna forget what he's done.

[–] Trihilis@ani.social 5 points 11 hours ago

"The left" according to these fascists is anything from left to right in a sane person's eyes.

Only the most racist, bigoted and morally bankrupt are considered right by people like elon and Trump.

[–] Timecircleline@sh.itjust.works 31 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

So there's that, but also the position of "special counsel" or whatever dumb title he holds is time limited. You can't be an unelected government official indefinitely (although I'm sure the current administration would change the rules if they cared enough to keep him). He's making it sound like he's bowing out, when it was the plan to step down in May from the beginning.

[–] couch1potato@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 16 hours ago

All the rules this administration has chosen to ignore, i refuse to believe this is the one they're going to follow. He could always stay on as an outside contractor or whatever other bs they want to tell us. If he's leaving, there must be a reason.

Didn’t this happen in trump’s first term as well? Musk was right there but got the boot once people started joking about Elon being in charge

[–] xzot746@sh.itjust.works 8 points 11 hours ago

You know what bud, you got the cash to completely disappear and know one will make fun of you anymore.

Well we still will cause you're a Nazi fuck but hey at least you won't get your feelings hurt by actually seeing and hearing about it.

Take your money and fuck off. How can someone be so rich and still be a complete and utter moron.

[–] Nocomment@reddthat.com 14 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

So, the russian agent side quest is nearly fool proofed and he’d really prefer the wealthy genius perception return?

[–] RedPostItNote@lemmy.world 9 points 12 hours ago

Luckily that’s gone forever

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago

The "attacks" aren't going to stop because you walk away, fuckhead

[–] maniclucky@lemmy.world 38 points 16 hours ago

He's broken the departments investigating him and it isn't fun anymore, he doesn't have to be there at this point to win.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 14 points 13 hours ago

Too late, shitbird.

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@sh.itjust.works 202 points 21 hours ago (6 children)

See? Bullying fascism works. It's the only thing that works. Fascism is fought with violence (physical or otherwise) as it's the only language that it understands.

When an opponent doesn't care about rules, playing by those rules only puts you at disadvantage.

[–] p03locke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 11 hours ago

Except he's already acquired the data he needs and shipped it over to his Russian handlers.

Mission Accomplished

We did have a little part in this, but otoh he's playing that game for years on his platform, I don't think it is what drove him out. Him blaming the Left is just - well, it's what he would do isn't it?

But now, even MAGA is against him. DOGE is such a blatant fuck-up on all levels, he probably doesn't even want to do that anymore. It won't bring his stock back up.

[–] limelight79@lemm.ee 25 points 19 hours ago

No, they aren't. Just the other day I saw idiots on Facebook calling for DOGE to come investigate our (Democrat led) county. They think he's doing great work saving them money.

As I said, idiots.

Bullying power in general as well. Progressives have been too soft on liberals too and always let them run the show. But the reality is it's always harder to rally people when things seem to be going ok and the crisis is muffled rather than blatantly obvious. Kinda how we never go to the dentist when nothing hurts even though we really shouldn't wait until it does. Anyway, hope something meaningful comes of this resistance because this fascist stage is still a stage of neoliberalism, like that's where the root cause is.

I appreciate his hope that capitulation will grant him mercy, but I'm not buying a Tesla unless he kills himself.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 4 points 11 hours ago

Make Tesla Volkswagen

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

What if he sold all his shares and quit and stuff?

[–] DoubleDongle@lemmy.world 9 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Wouldn't be nearly as satisfying, but I'd give it consideration I guess.

[–] klu9@lemmy.ca 2 points 10 hours ago

What about buying a Tesla with "Full Self-Driving"... and then projecting onto Musk an image of a wide open road and letting the Tesla do the rest?

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

He should leave more than politics.

But do let everyone waiting outside to hit you, melon

Fuck this baby. Go overdose on ketamine. We will all mourn. Zzzzzzz 😢😣☹️😰

[–] Saleh@feddit.org 16 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

ODing on Ketamine is quite difficult. LD50 for mice i.V. is 77mg/kg. So for an 80kg mouse that would be more than 6 grams of Ketamine given i.V. typically the bioavailability by nasal or oral consumption is lower and Musk most likely has a high tolerance. So we are talking probably 50grams or more of Ketamine for a lethal dosage for Musk.

I am not sure if Musk could actually snort enough Ketamine for a lethal dosage without it just falling back out of his nostrils or if he could swallow one without his stomach turning before it is adsorbed.

Obviously all of these numbers are speculative and taking drugs is harmful, no matter the amount. Also people often die not by ODing on Ketamine, but by killing themselves in accidents as they loose control over their muscles.

[–] obviouspornalt@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 11 hours ago

80 Kg mouse

Let me stop you right there....
