This is so frustrating!!!

Temporarily???

You had me in the first half, not gonna lie.

I find the nazis fascinating for their ability to co-opt symbols like the swastika. Could you imagine that happening today? Taking, for instance, the peace sign, punisher symbol, or Gadsden flag and turning them into quiet hate symbols?

[–] Machinist@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Wait, what did they do to the peace sign? Also, what about the hand signal?

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 month ago

They tried to get it for a minute after the okay hand sign. Succeeded for a bit before it was relinquished

Any symbol they would have chosen would have ended up as the Nazi symbol. Just like the name Hitler or that specific mustache style.

But the swastika specifically ending as the symbol you can mostly thank to Heinrich Schliemann and Émile-Louis Burnouf finding swastika adorned pottery at a Troy excavation in the 1870's, and declaring them to be the ancient symbols of the Aryans. https://humanjourney.us/language/external-symbols/swastika-the-hidden-power-of-a-symbol/

As a quick aside, the term Aryan was also co-opted by the Nazis. It originally referred to the Indo-Europeans as whole, and well the Swastika was present in European art until the early modern period namely as a form of repeating pattern for say rugs.

The cross/crucifix is quickly becoming a hate symbol. (If it wasn't already)

The whole site has been in disrepair for the past 3 years, and with all the breaches and issues lately, this downtime included, you can see the result clearly.

If it makes you guys feel even better, just know that such failure to maintain software for so long, mostly complex and widely used like Xitter, means that it won't get fixed easily at all. The knots are everywhere and will require even more time to untangle. Musk destroys everything he touches and I am at least happy about "this" one.

[–] kokesh@lemmy.world 22 points 1 month ago

No one cares

[–] Steve@startrek.website 21 points 1 month ago

Oh no! Anyway…

[–] Lembot_0002@lemm.ee 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh, no. What a tragedy! Call Trump. Send cavalry. Hide kids! Twitter is down!!!

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Musk will arrive on site any time now, and fix all of it with his chainsaw.
He just needs an extra dose of his meds first.

[–] selkiesidhe@lemm.ee 20 points 1 month ago

Why are there still tens of thousands of people still on Shitter???

[–] NotAGamer@lemmy.org 15 points 1 month ago

I would be devastated but I don't and never have used xitter.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 14 points 1 month ago

The only thing I don’t like about this is the word “temporarily”. Oh well.

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 month ago

impressive. but i bet they can't go down for a whole forever

[–] RagingSnarkasm@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

Lucky bastards.

Who even uses this scumbags platform

[–] Yttra@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

"But I only use twitter for 'art'", or "I just follow a few small communities" are the usual excuses these days.

I hear the same excuses as I did for Reddit, only I'd consider Twitter usage considerably less defensible :)

[–] const_void@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago

Scumbag owned platform for scumbags.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 month ago

xAI bought X right? So maybe they can run it on all of those servers xAI is illegally powering with unapproved generators.

[–] negativenull@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Tens of thousands of users? Or tens of thousands of bots?

And nothing of value to humanity was lost.

[–] SoloCritical@lemm.ee 7 points 1 month ago

“Dozens I tell you! Dozens!”

[–] SirFasy@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Geez, who would have thunk that a complex system needs to be maintained constantly.. apparently not Elmo.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 month ago

He did the DOGE on his twitter minions.

[–] cmlael67@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

That would explain the uptick in idiocy on Threads.

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I'd shed a tear if I gave a chit

[–] FelixCress@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Oh gosh, I am so sorry, nevermind.

[–] VeryVito@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 month ago

Why are there still 10s of any users on that hellwash of a platform?

I think that's what ill call it now

"The website formally known as Twitter"

it would be amusing to bring back the fail whale

Sweaty, stank-ass armpit if the internet. In a trench, doused in gasoline and set ablaze is the only outcome I will accept.

This is news?
