despite risk to Trump relations
This is where we are at, not risk to US relations, a risk to relations with Emperor Trump.
We are fully cooked, well-done so to speak.
This is a most excellent place for technology news and articles.

There is no point in making an effort to preserve relations with the US since their clown in chief will just tear down decades of relationships anyways after reading something on Twitter.
EU should forge ahead and just wait for America to hopefully come to senses and end it's entitled temper tantrum.
"Despite"?
Weighing the cost to the relationship to a fascist state must be the dumbest math possible.
indeed. At this point, the only thing related to 'murica that I care about in terms of relations is to keep them from nuking other countries. And with their empathyless billionaire cunts in charge of the rapist buffoon, that is basically impossible to ensure. Might as well do our own thing entirely.
there is an overlooked demographic here.
I want to know who supports EU stance on big tech especially because of the Trump relations.
I was literally going to say, what do you mean despite degrading Trump relations? Isn't that a goal in itself?
That's how you handle a bully. You stand up for yourself and take the hit if it comes to that.
There are so many ways in which big tech is complicit with what's happening in the US right now, but corporations have no home.
Lack of regulations, cozying up with an authoritarian, and a populace still with significant funds to drain keep them safely within bounds while things like the GDPR keep them at bay in Europe. But rest assured, once things become too difficult/drained over here, they'll start pushing the boundaries. Likely through grassroots campaigns to make Europeans distrust the GDPR (what is the general consensus on this anyways? as an American it looks pretty good to me but I've never lived under it).
Big tech is a behemoth unto itself, and will need to be fought as such. Put up strong protections now while you can.
The EU can't extricate itself from Russian gas despite years of Russian aggression in Ukraine. How do you think they are going to do with U fucking S tech? 😱
How is US tech going to do without European money? It's a two-way street. Things like GDPR, USB-C charging everywhere and other regulations have shown that the EU has plenty of influence.
One thing they could do right now... right now.... is to set up legislation to mandate all government systems to run on Open Source operating systems and software that is owned and controlled by European small to mid size companies. Out right ban the use of US tech in government.
The migration might take time. But I'm saying simply legislate for this. Do you think they ever will? I doubt it.
USB charging is the worst example ever. Ever ever.
It took the EU something like 15 years and several laughable attempts until they somehow made it.
USB-C is only like 10 years old, and widespread availability has been within maybe the last 5 years. I think it's fine they waited, enforcing a brand new and unproven technology would have been a bad idea.
Russian gas continues to enter French ports
With its five LNG terminals, France is a major gateway for liquefied natural gas into Europe. In 2024, a third of this gas came from Russia, but it's difficult to know how much of it simply passes through France, or is consumed domestically.
