Jellyfin, stremio, smarttube.

  • Projectivity Launcher (to remove all the Google ads and unneeded apps from view)
  • SmartTube Next (ad-free YT + SponsorBlock + clickbait blocker)
  • Kanopy (free movies and TV through your local library)
  • Stremio (Streaming client for Torrentio, TPB, etc.)
  • FCast (Open Chromecast implementation)

To clarify about Kanopy, "local library" here is referring to the public building that has a lot of books and stuff, not the media on your local hard drive.

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 9 points 2 days ago

And the "local" part means "in some countries with some participating libraries".

Sent you a message regarding one of these apps.

Projectivity Launcher to get away from that ad-ridden disaster that is the stock Google TV launcher.

tvQuickActions to remap the buttons on your remote.

atvTools (on your phone) for easy file management, file transfers, app installs, bloatware disabling, remote control and other miscellaneous ADB Shell goodies.

Not necessarily on topic, but I use Moonlight more than anything. The TV has bluetooth so I can sync most any controller and play my desktop games remotely through it.

Sorry, may be dumb, but whats onn and what is it relationship to google? Irealy like my chromcast, but it's getting old, but I don't want to transfer any more wealth to google. They licence it, I assume?

Walmart brand Google TV, slightly cheaper than Google branded Google TV.

ONN is Walmart brand electronics, best known for this particular $20 TV box that grossly outperforms the competition.

What @Bongles@lemmy.zip said. Like there are many Android phones, so are TV devices. The ONN Walmart boxes are probably the best in value and performance. I just added that picture for the post haha.

I used one of these at an Airbnb I stayed at last week. I downloaded and installed the Jellyfin client onto this device, no problem.
