Reminds me of the short film Slaughterbots from a while back. 7 years later and it doesn't seem all that much like fiction anymore...

[–] brendansimms@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

that little film is scary as shit and was always destined to come true

[–] Mist101@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

Reminds me of the "well programmed" turrets outside the jail in Idiocracy, the ones that shoot each other...

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Then those coward pigs can finally do something while they're hiding. And probably make more victims

Skynet for brown people

Armed with pepper balls

"Once airborne, they offer two-way communication through an embedded speakerphone. They also can break glass, make loud noises, fire nonlethal pepper-spray pellets or take other action within a minute as a first response to an incident. "

When they'll resort to deadly sky robots to "protect" children before they'll regulate who can have access to firearms...

At a demonstration of the drones at AcadeMir Preparatory High School in South Miami-Dade, the company showed how the drones are capable of using what the company calls “kinetic energy hits” to knock someone over.

I can’t even with this shit 😝

Might be cheaper if you just gave each student a gun.

They walk to school, check all their bags for firearms (take any away that are brought in) ... then after the security check, they are given their own holstered small sidearm that they have to keep visually on them at all times during school hours. It has to stay visible to everyone at all times.

[–] artifex@piefed.social 15 points 2 days ago

This reads like a MAGA wet dream.

[–] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 days ago

OMG Joey doesn't have a gun!

20 students draw on him

[–] thejoker954@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is... An idiot with a drone?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Noooo. Pff. Read the article.

It’s a Texas idiot with a Florida drone. So. Yeah.

Is the idea to stop a kid from killing their classmates by killing everyone before they get the chance?

[–] quoll@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Amen. Doesn't mean guns will immediately be illegal. It just won't be something you can obtain simply for living to a long enough point.

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 9 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I don't deal with children, is this sort of thing not a deal breaker for parents?

So do the drones have like, an explosive charge on it to kill the shooters like we use in war right now?

If so why is that at a school?

If not then what do they think a drone is fucking gonna do?

Really, this is the US government terrorizing children and a corporation using them as test subjects disguised as a security measure.

[–] chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

They have pepper spray, ramming capabilities, and speakers. Supposedly the idea is to distract the shooter to buy time and give away their position.

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They shoot them in the head. Same as they've been doing with the sniper drones in Gaza.

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The article says they will be equipped with non-lethal weapons

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 2 points 2 days ago

There is no such thing as a non-lethal weapon.

What you mean is "less lethal"

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

unlike Gaza. For now though…

[–] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

So instead of dealing with the actual problem... they're going to add to the problem. Wow. What a fucking liberty.

EDIT: I clearly didn't read the article. Not going to rewrite or delete what I said. Keeping my integrity. Thanks 👌

[–] Bakedtaint@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

So do they just circle over the school until the shooter has killed everyone and leaves the building?

[–] shirro@aussie.zone 4 points 2 days ago

They have to make sure it is safe for the police to go in.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I can't wait for one of these drones to go rouge...

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They'll definitely look pretty with makeup on

[–] popekingjoe@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

And red is probably their color too.

[–] ChetManly@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

A drone that size carrying only a go-pro has a battery life of only a few minutes. With all the shit this company glued to it I'm sure the shooter just has to close a door and count to 100 and the thing will fall out of the air.

[–] al_Kaholic@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 2 days ago

Calling it ai drone watching all American citizens within 5 years.

[–] HelluvaKick@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago
