I suggest we call it Slopi. Looking forward to opting out of this also.

Your U2 album says otherwise.

So it's less a Siri upgrade and more just a getting rid of Siri and putting in Gemini slop.

I use Siri for:

  • getting the time
  • setting an alarm
  • reading a notification
  • telling someone I’ll be late
  • skipping a song
  • ending a route, or creating a new one on the fly

None of those need AI.

But it'll tell you how smart and cool you are while doing those things poorly...

"You're absolutely right!"

I wish they’d actually improve their product instead of forcing in more slop

This is an example of billionaires’ solidarity with each other. Got to keep their shitty investment afloat!

Ok, so now more than ever I need to disable Apple Intelligence…. Can we please have a Linux phone finally? Yes I know Graphene is an option but I’m not putting my faith in a system that is actively being fucked over by Google

They're working on a non-Google alternative, last I heard.

Same, I’m just kind of waiting to see what happens while I use an iPhone with like 8 apps on it in the meantime

Does this actually surprise anyone considering Google already pays Apple a bazillion dollars every year to be the default search engine in Safari… I know they’re not exactly the same thing but the two companies are already in bed together.

Didn't we know this already?

[–] atrielienz@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

I didn't. But I also can't say I've been paying attention.

Hopefully all the time it’s taking will result in a half decent result. Siri is frequently less useful than just talking to a rock.

It could just as well be delays related to capacity.

I wonder if this is them getting the “we’re using Google” out of the way before a larger announcement of what they’ve been working on

Sounds like Google is helping fine tune a model and Apple will be hosting it. Apple’s Private Cloud Compute has a pretty robust privacy and security architecture, so hopefully this will be the capability of Gemini without Google’s prying eyes

Thank you! :) I thought it was too obscure

Smart move. Now you know who to blame if Siri tells you to put glue on your pizza.
