It is kinda hard to call yourself a sequel when you're basically the same exact game and literally the original game doesn't even exist anymore.

I do not like that I paid for Overwatch 1 but now only have Overwatch 2.

[–] tidderuuf@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Counter-Strike would like a word.

[–] favoredponcho@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You can still play the old counterstrike games

[–] ZoteTheMighty@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] doublah@sopuli.xyz 11 points 1 week ago

Global Offensive is still playable (at least the core gameplay) in the csgo_legacy branch of CS2 on Steam.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 9 points 1 week ago (5 children)

I don't like CS2 either; but Global Offensive had already killed CS for me long before it was converted to CS2.

[–] littleomid@feddit.org 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

In their defense, counter strike 1.5 and 1.6 existed. Condition zero as 1.7, source as 1.8, GO as 1.9 and now we are finally at two. 🤷‍♂️

[–] Codilingus@piefed.social 5 points 1 week ago

Also, updating to the Source 2 engine, yea?

This is salt in the wound for my friends who miss launch Overwatch.

[–] ulkesh@piefed.social 56 points 1 week ago

I'm right there with you. I miss having 6v6 with like half the characters they have now (so I can actually learn them all), with Jeff Kaplan keeping me excited to play. What a fun time that was.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

I'm right there with you. I think the hamster was the last new hero I played with.

Those were good times.

Now they're adding a cat with a jetpack, which I would love if they gave her a better name than Jetpack Cat.

[–] ampersandrew@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I mean, to be clear, I never liked Overwatch. Back when it was new, my friends were so into it that playing it with them was the only way we'd spend any time together. They're the ones who miss that launch game, lol.

I gave up on this game a long time ago. It took me longer than it should've to realize that "old Blizzard" is gone and not coming back.

[–] magiccupcake@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (5 children)

I took a long break from overwatch after the release of overwatch 2, but they have been made some big changes that have brought me back.

No more heros locked behind battle passes, free loot boxes, 6v6, great performance, sound design and the new perk system is nice. The game is more balanced than it ever was as overwatch 1, even it it's still not perfect.

I don't agree with everything, paid skins are absurdly expensive, and heros do seem designed to sell skins, but that's really not new either.

Still dead to me.

[–] justsquigglez@leminal.space 22 points 1 week ago

I think I actually took psychic damage reading that. Just... why.

[–] enterpries@sh.itjust.works 21 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Fuck whatever morons think dumb shit like this is acceptable:

I swear, everybody is such a goddamn sellout these days.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

This dumb shit isn't acceptable, and if I see something like this I just don't go to the website.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

Why are they storing that content in a third party cookie?

Seems like their webmaster needs to update it.

[–] vogi@piefed.social 19 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Overwatch is close to being a decade old btw.

It’s so unfortunate what they did to Overwatch, wonder how Jeff Kaplan and the original Team feels about all that.

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

IIRC he just washed his hands and moved on from it, which probably was the right call given the Acti-Blizz merger and Microsoft buyout.

[–] Sineljora@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

why does this game ask for my phone no. to play?

[–] rigatti@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Because it's free to play and it's supposed to be a deterrent to smurfing.

[–] PrinceOfSloth@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

man, games are taken so seriously these days that they resort to smurfing.

[–] rigatti@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It's been that way for a long time. The term smurfing, I think, originated with Warcraft II.

[–] Holytimes@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It was an a****** dude that no one wanted to play against in high-ranking ladders because everyone knew his name because he was a f****** a******.

So he made two accounts. One called Papa Smurf and the other smurfette. Then proceeded to s*** on low-ranking. Players made fun of them and was he general a****** till everyone learned those names and started avoiding him as well.

Smurfing since its inception has been fundamentally something only assholes do where this whole purpose of being an a******.

Ranked systems only work if everybody only has one account. It's also why most games restrict you to only one account for ranked purposes.

Activision does that with all their games now.

It’s the reason I won’t buy a new COD game.

"Jetpack cat"? Really? That desperate, huh?

[–] Mwa@thelemmy.club 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

just play TF2 ~~or marvel rivals~~ at this point

edit: maybe TF2 Is the better option(and its mods)

[–] thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I play Marvel Rivals almost every day. Compared to Overwatch, it's more casual and fun oriented, not that balanced at all. And its in third person, not first person. While Rivals has some Overwatch energy and can be played as a replacement, it is not a full replacement. And no other of these games will probably reach peak Overwatch and does not have the same charm.

BTW I recently installed Team Fortress 2 Classified, a mod that got its own Steam store page. It has lot of stuff from early TF2 days recreated and looks very interesting. Still need to try it out.

ohhh yeah i forgot

it’s more casual and fun oriented, not that balanced at all

Yeah fair enough

i think its also Team Fortress classic and maybe scraped tf2 features aswell

No thanks. I have 1000 hours in OW, but I've moved on.

[–] enterpries@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

These look like generic Chinese-overwatch characters.

[–] JTskulk@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

I'm still grateful that Blizzard did the Overwatch free weekend so I could determine for myself that it sucks ass.

[–] ZoteTheMighty@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

There used to be an r/EmreMains when the name first appeared in lore. That must have been almost 5 years ago, and now they've finally released the hero. I don't know what they expected, but I'd figure that almost everyone who was there previously has moved on, I certainly have.
