We're not headed towards fascism. We're already fascist. This is nothing more than silencing free speech. Just silencing a voice that said things the establishment didn't like. It's no different from the S.S. arresting germans who spoke jewish sympathy.

We're not becoming fascist. We're already there.

It's been here for decades, they always build fascism in silence then go mask off once it's full fledged

Since the seventies at the latest. Unions were unified and synchronized with parties post-WWII, workers' demands reconciled with those of capital. That was originally the project of il Duce, but we took it out of his hands greedily.

We could do fascism better than him and what is more fascist than to peg the worth of individuals, the economy, to that of a not necessarily racialised abstract people of a Nation? Now anyone can become a fascist by subordinating themselves to the state. A German is anyone who is a good citizen to the German state, Japan and the US are the same.

In Benito's words: "Race? It is a feeling, not a reality: ninety-five percent, at least, is a feeling. Nothing will ever make me believe that biologically pure races can be shown to exist today... National pride has no need of the delirium of race."

It was there prominently during the cold war era. If you happen to be gay or a socialist, then you were all ready being surveilled by the FBI.

Bit of nitpicking here, but that would have been the job of the Gestapo.

Who "we"? Not me. You seem to have tried to critique a fascist ('government') group of armed robbers, extorters, homiciders and genociders. Your critique would probably have more effect if you stopped supporting legitimacy of use of force of theirs by counting your name as part of that ('government' ) organization with the first person plural "we". THEY are fascists. THEY barely have managed scrounging a flimsy 19% of votes of the 330 000 000 residents of the so-callled U.S.A lands they have been occupying with surveillance, guns and bombs. THEY have addresses in the so-called U.S.A., on stolen indigenous tribal lands etc. THEY have been comitting genocide and have not stopped yet. THEY have real bank accounts with real addresses with specific amounts owing to tens of millions of victims per year so far.

This is PR and American propaganda for the real sauce last month where Reddit, Meta, and Google basically assumed the proper position and voluntarily gave DHS info.

They suffered reputational damage, and this is their government compensation package: a promotional up-do.

Protesters have launched an effort called “Resist and Unsubscribe” targeting ten tech companies they perceive as exceptionally supportive of ICE. That list includes Meta, Google, and Amazon, but not Reddit.

That's... odd. I seriously doubt Reddit deserves the exclusion.

What exactly is he being accuse of?

[–] sidelove@lemmy.world 41 points 3 weeks ago

The "official" line is that he mentioned personal information about the ICE officer who killed Renee Good in his criticism, which they are forcefully misconstruing as doxxing/incitement to harass. Which all completely falls apart when you consider the information was already reported on by major news outlets and completely public/part-and-parcel of tens of thousands of similar posts. But our government is made of shameless knuckle-draggers, so here we are.

Their first mistake was being a redditor

In its summons, ICE indicated the basis for its request was a provision of the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 . John Doe informed the court that they had nothing to do with the kind of activities at issue in the near-century-old statute, which governs boat show sales, wild animal imports, forfeited wines and spirits, and cross-border trade in other goods.

Anyone... anyone?

[–] antonim@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Let me guess, it's an AI-generated subpoena?

[–] WesternInfidels@feddit.online 3 points 3 weeks ago

...federal immigration officials attempted to use the tariff statute to unmask the president’s critics before, during the first Trump administration, and were reprimanded for doing so by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of the Inspector General in a 2017 report.

Email wall* to be clear. Meaningfully different from a paywall – and imo also shittier since I'm paying with my spammability rather than my money that supports the journalists. But easier to negotiate with a sock email.
