Safety..sure...someone wants to see and steal your potential IP by looking at the AUTOCAD server or your printer server.

I'm I missing something? This can't be the actual intent of the law, the actual intent for laws are rarely what they state. What are they really trying to do here? Or, are they really this fucking ignorant?

What are they really trying to do here?

  1. Prevent people from printing trademarked objects, like figures, characters, etc. that's where this is going.

  2. Steal IP on new designs. 'Cause AI theft of IP is so hawt right now.

  3. this is not about gun control in a country that has almost no gun control.

Item 1 is bonkers.

If I was to draw a picture of a character just for fun for myself, that isn't violating copyright. If I was to sculpt a figure out of clay, that isn't a violation of copyright. It stands to reason printing my own 3D model of a character is also not violating the law unless I pirated the model files or ripped them from a game or something.

Though I am also pretty sure it isn't a violation of copyright to print an actual picture of Mickey Mouse downloaded from Disney's own website. So again, why should it be a violation to do the same in 3D?
