Honestly I think this is great. Some tacky bloodsport arena is a refreshingly honest reflection of the true national character of this country.

Much more fitting than the weird civil religion stuff going on in the rest of the national mall. This country does not deserve dignity until it stops being a global force for evil.

[–] ViceroTempus@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Was mad, but yeah, honestly true. It's like when he renamed the Department of Defense back to the Department of War. A far more accurate reflection.

We blew past that shit, long ago!

[–] TheBrideWoreCrimson@sopuli.xyz 31 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It's probably been mentioned many times already, but here it goes anyway:
"If you put a clown onto the throne, the clown will not turn into a king. The palace will turn into a circus."

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 day ago

Started now we here

[–] amniote@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wrong. Look at Ukrain's Zelenski : TV show comedian. Now the stature of Churchill.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 4 points 1 day ago

He did appoint his TV Producer business partner as head of the intelligence service, who then missed the Russian invasion.

Please note that this is the guy that hates the sight of wind turbines out in the distance. They ugly.

And unlike him, wind turbines serve a useful purpose

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Wind turbines look freaking bad ass!

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

There's a lot of wind turbines where I live and driving past them feels extremely blissful. Just looking at them gives me hope.

[–] prenatal_confusion@feddit.org 11 points 1 day ago

I absolutely agree

Even Don Quixote had a better reason for hating windmills.

[–] jenings@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

This comment right here is what his cult will suck the shit from his asshole for. He loves to troll libs so goddamn much and his unwavering fan base will let him literally rape children for it

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago

Make it into a trailer park.

[–] Sequentialsilence@lemmy.world 203 points 2 days ago (16 children)

I work in events. That is a very temporary structure. The frame is aluminum trussing, and although it would hold up fairly well, all of the fabric will start bleaching within 3-4 weeks, the metal chains holding everything up will start rusting pretty quickly being exposed to the elements. The lights themselves aren’t IP rated and are relying on the fabric for protection so those will fail pretty quickly. Finally the stage itself has a wood underlayment that will rot within a single season if left outside.

Lastly it’s all rented and the rental company will continue to charge the client until it’s returned.

Never forget.

[–] Furbag@pawb.social 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Lastly it’s all rented and the rental company will continue to charge the client until it’s returned.

That's just another line item for the American taxpayer. Hardly Trump's problem.

Can't wait to find out that this somehow cost us taxpayers like a hundred million dollars.

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago

And the rental company is DefinitelyNotTrumpJr LLC.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 48 points 2 days ago (3 children)

It'll be like a toilet in the front yard and he plants flowers in it. White trash is his style.

Funny story about temporary rental equipment.

My old company, big (as in billions $$) defence control actor. They refused to buy permanent sites, instead they would lease or rent buildings or structures. Sea cans counted as structures. They rented 3 sea cans for 15 years. Spent almost 100k each over that period. Never once did they accept the financial argument that one years lease would almost buy a sea can outright.

[–] Starik@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Probably the only consideration is what is cheapest for the current quarter.

They’re expecting trump to pay the rental fee? How quaint.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 33 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It's not Donald paying. It's those of us who actually pay taxes.

Relevant quote from Carl Sagan's "The Demon-Haunted World":

[The 1939 New York World's Fair's president] Grover Whalen - a former corporate executive, New York City police chief in a time of unprecedented police brutality, and public relations innovator [...] had convinced Stalin and Mussolini to build lavish national pavilions. (He later complained about how often he had been obliged to give the fascist salute.) The level of the exhibits, as one designer described it, was pitched to the mentality of a twelve-year-old.

I can see the logic. Build a colosseum and stage gladiatorial contests, distract the masses and get made emperor for life. But what a pathetic attempt at a colosseum this is.

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

NO BREAD. ONLY CIRCUS.

WHO THE FUCK TOLD HIM ABOUT THE EIFFEL TOWER?

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 30 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Just what I was thinking. There's no way orange hitler knew that it was originally a temporary structure that became permanent.

"I wanted a tower, so I built one. France has a tower, and it's so bad, they call it The Awful Tower. My tower won't be awful, it'll be the best. It'll be so great that people will fight over it. And on it. Anyway, I gotta go take a shit."

The 2014 invasion? Nah bro, nobody missed that over there.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 63 points 2 days ago (6 children)

I'm calling it now. Some attack will happen at these events. Trump will play the role of "oh no, I've been shot..." and then 2 hours later will brag that he's the healthiest guy the doctors ever saw.

Anybody ever see the movie Groundhog Day?

........no reason.

Not even close. Komancho was a very good president.

[–] Bahnd@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Correct, he hired the most qualified people and listened to them (eventually). Much less can be said about darth cheeto.

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 day ago

Trump is showing why Flordia needs to be cut off. Next month, we are adding plastic flamingos and a 2005 Dodge Ram with 3 rims, on blocks.

[–] stretch2m@infosec.pub 27 points 2 days ago (6 children)

Oh please let him live long enough to watch us tear all his tacky shit to the ground!

Not surprising - Bonespurs thinks he's permanent too.

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 35 points 2 days ago (4 children)

There is nothing Trump has done that should be permanent.
